Petition To Remake Game Of Thrones Season 8 Has Hit Its Goal

As the old adage goes: "it's not how you start, it's how you finish." In that case, Game of Thrones is destroying all of the good will it's built up over the years with a horrendous conclusion. Season 8 of the hit HBO show is proving so disastrous, in fact, that fans are taking to the Internet to demand that the network rewrite and reshoot the last six episodes.

The idea may sound silly, but the online petition has already been signed by over 500,000 people, easily hitting its goal. Most of those signatures have come within the last 24 hours, too, and now, the creator has increased the aforementioned goal to 1,000,000, which it’ll most likely reach.

What’s also interesting to note is that the criticism of last episode in particular was so bad that fans of another popular series are starting to fear for the future of their beloved franchise. Game of Thrones co-creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are writing several new Star Wars movies, which is giving many devotees of the intergalactic space films a lot to worry about.

While HBO will almost certainly not put any stock into this petition, it does show how the writers seem to really have bungled what could’ve been an iconic ending to one of the most popular events in the history of television. There’s still one more episode to go before the series is over, so there’s a chance that the show can redeem itself before it’s too late, but right now, we don’t feel too hopeful.

Amid all of this controversy though, one thing’s certainly for sure: if fans are reacting this viscerally to Game of Thrones‘ final season, it’s a good thing the Internet wasn’t as big when The Sopranos came to an end. That petition could have ended up breaking the web once and for all.

The Game of Thrones finale airs this Sunday on HBO. Will you be tuning in, though? Be sure to let us know.
