Falcon And Winter Soldier Finds Its Director; Daniel Bruhl And Emily VanCamp To Star

Deadline is reporting tonight that Marvel's Falcon and Winter Soldier spinoff series has found its directed, who is expected to helm all six episodes.

Falcon and Winter Soldier (AKA Marvel’s bickering bromance) has officially secured a director in the form of Kari Skogland.

Per Deadline, she’ll direct all six installments of the Disney Plus series, which is due to arrive in August 2020. Civil War duo Daniel Bruhl (Baron Zemo) and Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter) round out the supporting cast, and we already know Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie are due to reprise as the MCU double act.

Sources close to Deadline even go so far as to suggest Cap’s decision to pass over his mantle and shield to Falcon during the Endgame finale will filter into Falcon and Winter Soldier in some capacity. Whatever the case, Stan himself recently offered some clues as to what’s in store for his rugged anti-hero:

I think it’s time for Bucky to go out there and have an identity outside of the circumstances that we’ve met him through. So, I don’t know, he might do all kinds of things. He might even go on a date. I don’t know. Scary world out there, you know? Apps, things like that. I don’t know what he’s gonna do. I can’t see him on an iPhone…I think it’s gonna be a lot of dealing with Anthony’s character and Anthony himself which is always another character.

The fact that Bruhl and VanCamp are both involved strongly suggests a post-Cap storyline in which Falcon and Winter Soldier must set aside their differences to do what Steve Rogers cannot – remember, he’s an old man now. Malcolm Spellman of Empire is on script duties, and we fully expect to learn more about Marvel’s big TV plans during the summer.

Beyond a vague August 2020 release window, no concrete premiere date has been set for Falcon and Winter Soldier thus far. The same can’t be said for Disney Plus, mind you, which is due to go live across the globe on November 12th of this year, by which point viewers will be poring over The Mandalorian and all the other content on offer.
