Knights Of The Old Republic TV Show In The Works, Will Connect With Movie

Earlier this week, the news broke that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic movie is on its way, with screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis (Terminator Genysis) hired by Lucasfilm to pen a script for the first installment of a possible trilogy. And it seems like the studio isn't stopping there, as they're also planning to mine this corner of the SW universe even further in an accompanying TV show.

We Got This Covered has heard from a source that Lucasfilm is developing a KOTOR TV series for the Disney Plus streaming service. We don’t have any story details for the project just yet, but our source tells us that the show will definitely connect to the films. So maybe it’ll be a direct spinoff featuring characters from the movies, or it could take place in another area of the galaxy and just be set during this period?

In any case, there’s certainly a lot of material at the studio’s feet to draw from. The RPG video game series has been around since 2003, with it currently standing as the only what we now call “Legends” spinoff still going. Fans have been pleading for a movie set in this part of the Star Wars timeline – the games are set around 4,000 years prior to the Skywalker saga – for ages and now that Rise of Skywalker is going to wrap up the franchise as we know it, it seems Lucasfilm is ready to dive deep into the ancient history of that galaxy far, far away.

The KOTOR movies are theorized to be the trilogy which Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are attached to. We already know that three new SW movies are coming in 2022, 2024 and 2026, but there’s been no confirmation these are Benioff and Weiss’ films as yet. Although, given the rumors about Rian Johnson’s own trilogy being put on hold, this seems the most likely option.

All this means that we could be looking at a whole multimedia franchise based on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in the coming years. Are you excited by the idea, though? Or are you starting to feel some franchise fatigue? Let us know in the comments section below.
