AMC has confirmed that the TWD season 10 opener will air on Sunday, October 6th. This follows on from season 9 which previously pushed the show’s return up to early October instead of its traditional mid-October slot. The season will, of course, also have a split run of 16 episodes, as per every outing since season 3.

Season 10 will continue the storyline set up in the second half of 9, that of the grave threat of the Whisperers. Alpha and her band of walker skin-wearing weirdos have caused a lot of pain for our heroes and the assembled communities (R.I.P Tara, Enid, Henry, etc.), so the people of Alexandria and co. will have a lot of work cut out for them across this next run if they’re to take care of the threat for good.

At some point, though, they’ll lose one of their biggest protectors in Michonne. Danai Gurira has been cagey about the exact nature of her imminent departure from the show, but we know it’s coming in season 10. That said, it doesn’t look like Michonne will be written out permanently, as she’s expected to make an appearance in those Andrew Lincoln-starring movies.

On a happier note, showrunner Angela Kang has teased that maybe Norman Reedus’ Daryl will find romance this season. Plus, fingers crossed Lauren Cohan will return in a guest spot as Maggie, after not being seen since last year.

Be sure to stay tuned to WGTC over the coming days as we’ll no doubt learn more about The Walking Dead season 10 from the show’s panel at this week’s Comic-Con, which should also bring us the first trailer.
