Star Trek: Discovery season 2 ended things on a humongous cliffhanger, as the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery flew into a wormhole leading to the far future. They’ll truly be going where no one’s gone before in season 3, then, and these first look images tease what’ll happen to Sonequa Martin-Green’s intrepid Michael Burnham in this brave new time.
Season 3 will fling Burnham and the rest 1,000 years into the future, but they won’t even have each other for company as the trip through the wormhole will scatter them. As we can see in these photos, Burnham arrives on her own on some rocky, barren world. However, she’ll soon encounter a new character joining the show.
Apparently, he’s named Book and is played by David Ajala (fresh of portraying Manchester Black on Supergirl season 4). Deadline broke the news of Book’s arrival, describing him as having “a natural charisma and devil-may-care attitude that tends to get him into trouble as often as it gets him out.” The Discovery team also promised that many more fresh additions to the cast would appear as well, but they’re not ready to be unveiled just yet.
It wasn’t just Discovery season 3 that we learned about at today’s Trek panel though, as new info on all of CBS’ upcoming entries in the franchise was unveiled. Including the line-up for the next season of Short Treks – which will bring back Pike, Spock and the Tribbles – and the first artwork for upcoming animated series Lower Decks. Last but not least, we discovered that a ton of old favorites will return alongside Patrick Stewart in the much-anticipated Picard.
Star Trek: Discovery season 3 doesn’t have a release date yet, but we’d expect it to arrive in spring 2020. As always, watch this space for more.
