Doctor Strange 2 Will Reportedly Feature Original Comic Book Version Of Nick Fury

Last week was a bit of a wild ride for fans of the MCU. In a panel that was held at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios finally broke their silence on Phase 4, with studio president Kevin Feige and plenty of celebs coming out of the woodwork to promote the movies and TV shows that will grace our screens in the next few years. There was tons of news about the upcoming Black Widow film (which is set to release next May), as well as casting information regarding Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, with the main role going to Canadian actor Simu Liu (of Kim's Convenience fame).

We also got confirmation that another Doctor Strange movie was in the works. This follow-up, titled In the Multiverse of Madnessmight just be one of the best names given to an MCU film in a while – after all, its name alone conjures up a thousand ideas of where the story could go.

Interestingly though, Cosmic Book News reports that the original comic book version of Nick Fury – who’s quite different from the one in the MCU currently – will be introduced in the new flick. Of course, this scoop comes from an unnamed “inside Marvel source,” so you may want to take it with a grain of salt until an official announcement comes down the pipeline.

It’s not entirely sure how this new iteration of Fury will fold into the ongoing MCU story either, but with “multiverse” in the film’s title, there’s always a chance that we’ll be introduced to an alternate version of the character from another dimension. Considering Elizabeth Olsen is also starring as Scarlet Witch, it seems like anything will be possible.

In any case, we’ll find out for sure on May 7th, 2021, when Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness is scheduled to hit theaters.
