The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was officially announced at Comic-Con over the weekend, with it being confirmed that Anthony Mackie will be suiting up as the new Captain America in the Disney Plus TV series. It was also revealed that Daniel Bruhl is set to return as the villainous Zemo from Captain America: Civil War. Those in attendance even got to see a special teaser in which the sinister Sokovian donned his classic purple mask for the first time in the MCU and though it’s yet to be released online, we’ve now got the next best thing.

Bruhl himself has shared a couple of screenshots on his Instagram account which give us our first look at Zemo’s comeback in the show. As you can see in the gallery below, one shot depicts the master manipulator facing the camera but the second is what will really interest fans, as it unveils the aforementioned mask.

“Longing, Rusted, Seventeen, Daybreak, Furnace, Nine, Benign, Homecoming, One, Freight Car,“ Bruhl wrote in his caption, referencing the code his character used to brainwash the Winter Soldier in Civil War. “Zemo is getting ready.”

Though Bruhl’s performance as Zemo was praised in the 2016 movie, fans were critical of the choice to remove the villain’s purple mask from the equation. Honestly, that was a sensible decision for the more grounded take on the character in Civil War and now his appearance in Falcon proves Marvel were right to hold back on it.

Last time we saw Zemo he might’ve been imprisoned, but his plan to break up the Avengers pretty much worked. Bruhl’s tease suggests he’s “ready” to unleash another complex insidious plot though in the upcoming series. Will Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes be able to stop the Master of Evil? We’ll find out when The Falcon and The Winter Soldier arrives on Disney Plus in Fall 2020.
