Over the weekend, it was confirmed – to the joy of DC fans everywhere – that veteran voice actor Kevin Conroy is finally getting the chance to play Bruce Wayne in live-action as part of The CW’s upcoming Arrowverse extravaganza “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” The announcement confirmed that Conroy would be playing a future version of the character, but we’ve now got additional intel that further clarifies his role in the crossover.
We Got This Covered has been informed by our sources – the same ones who told us that Wonder Woman will don her Golden Eagle armor in the sequel, and that Black Mask will be gay in Birds of Prey, both of which were later confirmed – that Conroy will be playing an older Batman based on the Kingdom Come version in “Crisis.” The seminal comic series exploring a dark dystopian future for the DC universe has already been said to be a big influence for the TV event as Brandon Routh is suiting up as Superman again to play the Kindom Come take on the character.
While we believe Routh will be donning the Supes costume, we’ve heard that Conroy won’t be wearing the cape and cowl in “Crisis.” This fits with the press release accompanying his casting, which credited him as “Future Bruce Wayne.” Note the use of his civilian identity and not his superhero one. Likewise, don’t expect the actor to get a huge chunk of screentime, as it looks like he’ll just turn up for a cameo.
That might be a bit of shame, but it’s fair enough considering everyone else the crossover needs to find time for. Black Lightning‘s Cress Williams, Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman, Jon Cryer’s Lex Luthor, Elizabeth Tulloch’s Lois Lane and Burt Ward as an older Robin are just a few of the stars already revealed to be showing up. Plus, there’s many more reportedly dropping by.
The crossover’s bigger scope is also reflected in its five-episode length and the break over Christmas in the middle. It’s truly shaping up to be something quite special and you won’t want to miss “Crisis on Infinite Earths” when it begins on December 8th on The CW.
