When it comes to adapting “Crisis on Infinite Earths” from comic book to small screen, I doubt any of us are expecting for the strictest of translations. After all, the Arrowverse landscape of 2019 is vastly different from how DC’s books were looking in the mid-1980’s – but the concept remains intact.
Long story short, we should expect for things to kickoff with the Anti-Monitor laying waste to various parallel universes, before setting his sights on the heroes we’ve come to know and love. From there, the costumed crimefighters will team up in order to combat this threat unlike any other. But when it’s all said and done, we’ll probably no longer speak of places such as Earth-2 or Earth-38, and instead await one coherent universe coming out the other end of this thing.
Believe it or not, legendary comic book writer Marv Wolfman has joined executive producer Marc Guggenheim on scripting duties. Yes, the very man who penned the source material is along for this ride. If that isn’t quality control, I don’t know what is.
Beyond this announcement coming out of the recent TCA press event, not much is known about Wolfman’s involvement. If I were to wager a guess, he and Guggenheim will get story credits while each individual episode will have a “teleplay by” credit accompanying writers from each respective series participating.
To briefly recap the sort of awesomeness we shall anticipate, know that both Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh will suit up as different iterations of Superman, with the latter portraying the Man of Steel from the Kingdom Come timeline. And if that weren’t enough, LaMonica Garrett’s pulling double duty as the Monitor and Anti-Monitor, Elizabeth Tulloch returns as Lois Lane, Batman ’66 alum Burt Ward will show up, Black Lightning will get in on the action, and – get this – Kevin Conroy makes the leap from animation to live action as an older version of Bruce Wayne!
“Crisis on Infinite Earths” begins on Sunday, December 8th with Supergirl.
