Disney Rumored To Be Making New Spider-Man Deal, Includes Venom In MCU

However, it's known that Sony is hoping to reopen negotiations, with other sources saying things aren't as final as folks think. TVO of Lords of the Long Box claims that a new Sony/Disney deal is already in the works. This would cover all bases for Spider-Man’s future across both movies and TV, allowing for each party to carry out their own plans with the support of the other. As well as continuing Spidey’s MCU journey for seven more films, it’s said that this new deal would allow Venom to join the franchise as well.

There’s always been a lot of talk about a Venom/MCU crossover, with conflicting information leaving fans confused where it fits. Certainly, Sony seems to want the character to be part of Marvel Studios’ world, with director Ruben Fleischer teasing a face-off with Spidey and producer Amy Pascal calling it an “adjunct” to the MCU. However, Marvel’s reportedly less keen on making this connection official. But maybe this will change if the supposed deal comes to pass.

There’s not too much in the first Venom movie, after all, that explicitly precludes it from all happening in the MCU, so there’d only be the need for some slight retconning to make it work. If Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock was properly part of that universe, though, it could open up some huge opportunities. Venom could be part of the Sinister Six, the Dark Avengers, you name it.

In any case, part of this rumor says that the deal is hoping to be settled before tomorrow’s D23 panel, so we’ll find out soon enough if there’s any truth to it. As always, stay tuned to WGTC for more as the Spider-Man saga continues.
