Tom Holland Filmed A Venom Cameo But Marvel Made Sony Cut It

Following Sony's split with Disney, it now seems inevitable that we're going to get some kind of mash-up between Tom Holland's Spider-Man and Tom Hardy's Venom. It's interesting to note that this crossover could've happened much sooner though, if not for Marvel's intervention. In fact, Peter Parker was actually supposed to make a cameo in the supervillain's titular 2018 flick. The scene was even filmed and ready to be inserted into the movie before the studio stepped in.

It’s long been said that Sony has been pushing for Venom to be included in the MCU for a long time, only to be continually rejected by Disney. Even before the two companies parted ways, it was rumored that the characters could coincide in a film outside of Marvel’s purview. Given Sony’s insistence on making this union happen between the two competing forces, it makes sense why they tried to get Holland to pop up in Venom’s origin story.

Even though the scene was ultimately cut, the film still went on to make an insane amount of money at the box office. In fact, the success of the feature ultimately might’ve been what emboldened Sony to move on without Disney. Despite what fans might think, the studio believes it can crank out crowd-pleasing Spider-Man installments without the help of Marvel. Whether or not this actually happens though remains to be seen.

After all, since audiences may never be able to witness Holland’s deleted scene from Venom, it’s a guessing game as to whether or not these two actors can make it work in a movie together. It’s likely that they will since they’re both immensely talented, but the overall quality of any potential entry starring both of them is still questionable.

Maybe the two Toms will get one day get the chance to reprise their roles in the MCU. But until then, expect Sony to lead the way when it comes to all things Spider-Man and Venom for the next little while.
