August is upon us and the summer blockbuster season is nearing its end, which means there are a ton of great movies hitting theaters. From the sci-fi event of the year to two long awaited biopics, this month is going to be yet another where you may wish you could spend all day in the theater.
With the massive, $580 million success of 2011's The Smurfs, there was little doubt as to whether a sequel would quickly follow, and sure enough, Raja Gosnell was handed the reins for The Smurfs 2, which picks up with our little blue heroes a few years after their escapades in New York. This time around they're funnier, more entertaining, and have a much deeper plot driving them along.

One of the best panels at Comic-Con was definitely the one for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Great information about the movie came from all those involved with every interview, and rave reviews hit the web about the footage that was shown. Unfortunately for most fans, there hasn't been a way to see that footage unless you were at Comic-Con. Until now that is.
While the cast list for The Secret Service has been getting more and more impressive with additions such as Michael Caine and possibly Emma Watson, there are also some interesting cameos being lined up for Matthew Vaughn's adaptation of the graphic novel. Today, we have word that Sir Elton John may be making an appearance in the film.
Vampire stories are definitely overdone these days. Between TV shows and movies, there's far from a shortage of media about blood-suckers at a viewer's disposal. That saturation still doesn't mean those stories can't be entertaining when done well. Dave Schultz's Rufus isn't anything revolutionary in terms of vampire movies, but it's still handled in an interesting way, full of intrigue, mystery, and emotion.
Joe Swanberg's Drinking Buddies tells the story of Luke (Jake Johnson) and Kate (Olivia Wilde), two co-workers at a craft brewery who spend their time together flirting and having great conversations. Basically everything they would want in a significant other, which would make their relationship perfect, if they weren't already in relatively happy relationships with other people. Their current relationships begin to crumble though when Luke's girlfriend is kissed by Kate's boyfriend, an event which the two beer buddies are completely unaware of.
20th Century Fox's search for the actor to play Doctor Victor Frankenstein in their upcoming adaptation of the classic Mary Shelley story is now complete. The studio has chosen James McAvoy, and contract negotiations are currently under way to add the actor to the cast of Frankenstein.
When Sony announced that not only would its The Amazing Spider-Man franchise be getting a 3rd film, but a 4th as well, most speculation as to what Marc Webb had planned for the series was no longer valid. Many were speculating how he was going to craft a quality trilogy with the villains and love interests he had already planted. Now that he's working outside the constraints of a trilogy, not only does he have the space to fully flesh out the characters he has introduced, but he may use it as an opportunity to introduce more heroes into this Spider-Man cinematic universe.
In Glenn Howerton's recent Rolling Stone Q&A, he was quoted as saying that season 10 would serve as the last for It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. This was taken as very sad news by most fans of the show, who were upset that they would only get to see two more seasons of the Gang's depraved behavior. Before those fans could be too upset though, Howerton took to Twitter to say he was misquoted, and the series may continue past its tenth season.
