A lot of Neill Blomkamp fans wanted the District 9 director to take on Star Wars: Episode VII when Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm was first announced. After all, he created a wonderful dystopian film that not only appealed to sci-fi nuts, but to moviegoers worldwide. Why wouldn't he be perfect for Star Wars? Well it turns out the folks over at Disney thought the same thing, but Blomkamp wasn't interested in being a part of the franchise.
Sean Penn has starred in an array of films with some excellent and memorable performances, but we've never gotten to see him as a full-blown action star. The first opportunity to see him take on such a role will be The Gunman which is currently filming in Europe.
With Comic-Con starting later this week, rumors and reveals are going to abound, but before the convention even starts, we may have the hottest casting rumor of them all. There's word that the execs over at Marvel have one specific actor in mind to play Doctor Strange, and that actor is none other than Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
With Comic-Con kicking off this week, we can look forward to a lot coming our way from the upcoming superhero films, and especially those from Marvel Studios. Today, we have a little preview ahead of the convention, with two new posters featuring concept art from Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Ender's Game author Orson Scott Card has made no effort to hide his beliefs when it comes to gay rights. An adamant opponent of gay marriage, he has made many public statements detailing his reasons for opposing same-sex unions, and that firm stance has the potential to hurt Lionsgate's upcoming adaptation of Card's work. Multiple calls to boycott the November 1 film have popped up online from groups saying that paying to see the film is supporting Card, who also serves as a producer.
After the massive success of Skyfall, it seemed almost certain that the producers would want to bring Daniel Craig and Sam Mendes back together for at least one more film. After all, the 23rd Bond film is the highest grossing of all time in 007's home country, and it did pretty well worldwide too, raking in over $1 billion worldwide. The only real question was how soon would we get to see MI6's finest on the big screen again for Bond 24. Today we have that answer, as the official James Bond Twitter account sent out 2015 release dates for the next film.
Grown Ups 2 opens with a deer piss joke and closes with a fart joke. That should tell you just about everything you need to know about the star-studded sequel from director Dennis Dugan.
But in case you need to know more, after that first joke, all the way up until the last, there's a whole lot of the same. And it's bad. Almost cringe-worthily bad. I honestly didn't think this sequel could be any worse than the first film, but was I ever wrong.
Thanks to Comic-Con getting set to kick off and Entertainment Weekly's preview issue, we've had a ton of reasons to get excited for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 this week. Yesterday, we got the first look at a fully charged version of Jamie Foxx's Electro, and we also heard an interesting quote from Spidey himself, Andrew Garfield, about whether Peter Parker could actually be gay. Today, we've got a bunch of new stills from the film showcasing friends and foes.
When Mary Jane was cut from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, most assumed it was because the concrete plans for a third and fourth film meant there was no need to pack another character into film number two. But if Andrew Garfield has any say, the move may actually be due to the fact that Shailene Woodley is female, and this version of Spider-Man's saga calls for a more masculine MJ.
A few months ago we got to see some images of a blue Jamie Foxx on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, confirming that the Electro Spidey would be dueling in next spring's film would be more like the Ultimate Spider-Man version than the original green-and-yellow-spandexed Max Dillon. Now, thanks to the folks over at Entertainment Weekly, we get a glimpse at the fully electrified Electro.
