The time for debate is over. The battle to determine what modern shooter is king this fall has finally come to fruition, with the first opponent entering the ring early ready to unload a fistful of bullets into its competition. Battlefield 3 has arrived, exactly two weeks before Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set upon the eager gamers waiting to get their sweaty hands on the highly anticipated juggernaut.
If the record-breaking debut of The Walking Dead’s second season indicated anything, it’s that this series is extremely popular among its ever-growing viewers, and for good reason too. This is high quality programming that’s one of the most riveting shows to have ever appeared on television. The Walking Dead’s trend of excellence continues tonight with an incredible new episode that introduces a bunch of new characters that fans of the graphic novels will be instantly familiar with.
It’s been almost a week since Batman’s latest game released to widespread critical acclaim from both critics and fans of the DC superhero. Anyone who’s sunken endless hours exploring the various nooks and crannies of Batman: Arkham City is aware that there’s a ton of available side content to explore besides the initial campaign (which is awesome by the way).
Fans of the series will be right at home with Paranormal Activity 3 and at the same time be completely satisfied with what’s shown this time around. But no matter how hard it tries, the uncomfortable feeling that the first film provided is gone. As with all horror sequels, this one plays it safe and retains what made the original such a hit, yet it offers enough new features to warrant a viewing for jolts and chills at Halloween.
While not revolutionary or even an overhaul of its predecessors, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair does do things mildly distinctive in the form of multiplayer. The action and combat remain the same, aside from a few character adjustments, but working together with a group allows for greater exploration. Either requiring the help of a teammate to gain access to an undiscovered area or timing attacks together against a formidable boss, the gameplay works smoothly with others. For a series that has relied on the same bag of tricks for years, its good to see something new come out of it, even if the end goal is still trying to kill Dracula.
It's October once again and, aside from Halloween, there's another event occurring this month, with just as many zombie costumes on display. The Walking Dead returns after a short-lived but incredibly addictive first season that ended rather abruptly for fans of the series and its graphic novel counterparts. AMC did such a fantastic job at portraying zombies and the hardship of human survival that its return to the small screen has been eagerly anticipated for months now. If the show's Season 2 premiere has anything to prove, it's that this series has endless opportunities to expand on the zombie apocalypse and the doomed characters involved within it.
At full price it’s not easy recommending Supremacy MMA, even to loyal fans of the sport. It’s a failed representation of MMA and why it’s so popular in today’s society. A lack of content and a distinct personality, it never achieves the height of the sport it’s trying to faithfully illustrate aside from the visual splendor of the violence associated with it. More fighters, wider customization options, a proper progression meter, finely-tuned controls and more expansive online play would help significantly if a sequel was ever conceived.
Back at E3, gamers caught a glimpse of the new Spec Ops footage for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. It's basically designed as a variant of the ever-popular Horde survival mode from the Gears of War series, where two players battle increasingly difficult waves of terrorists solely focused on killing you.
Although it had a few missteps (that still delivered some solid laughs) "Geography of Global Conflict" was another great episode for Community. Anytime the show focuses on Annie it turns out to be a good thing since Alison Brie has crafted such a wonderful character who’s basically a classic school stereotype gone wrong.
