Alita: Battle Angel Fans Fly Banner Over Oscars To Campaign For Sequel
Conversation at the Oscars last night centered on three films: Sam Mendes' 1917, Todd Phillips' Joker and Bong Joon-ho's Parasite. All three walked away with gongs, with Parasite the surprise big winner after picking up Best Picture, Best Director, Best International Picture and Best Original Screenplay. But another 2019 movie that earned no nominations also made some headlines: Alita: Battle Angel.

Joker Fans Are Furious That It Was Robbed Of Best Picture At Oscars
In the end, Joaquin Phoenix's Best Actor win for Joker felt like a coronation. He's been picking up gongs left, right and centre for his performance as Arthur Fleck, so there were few surprises when he took to the stage to deliver a typically unique acceptance speech. But with Phoenix's Oscar feeling like a done deal, Joker fans were eyeing some of the other major awards. Could Todd Phillips nab Best Director, or could the pic even go on to become the first comic book movie to win Best Picture?

Joker Named As The Most Dangerous Movie Of 2019
The 92nd Academy Awards kick off tonight and Joker leads the pack with an impressive 11 nominations, including Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. While Sam Mendes' 1917 might pip it to the post on Best Picture and Best Director, Joaquin Phoenix is the favorite to walk away with Best Actor and I'd wager the film will end the night with a few other statues as well. But, it's already picked up one rather interesting award ahead of that, as Joker has been named the most dangerous movie of the year."

Old Star Wars Book Might Explain Palpatine’s Goals In The Rise Of Skywalker
Like most people I was pretty damn disappointed with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The film had a barely intelligible story, rolled back a whole bunch of character development and was riddled with unexplained plot elements. The most brazen was bringing back Emperor Palpatine without explaining how. We all saw Darth Vader hurl him into the second Death Star's reactor in Return of the Jedi, followed shortly by the entire station blowing up. The closest thing we got an explanation of how this happened was the cryptic line “the Dark Side of the force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural". That doesn't clear up anything!

Young Luke Skywalker Might Appear In The Mandalorian Season 2
After a barnstorming first season, anticipation for whatever The Mandalorian does next is sky-high. Judging by the what we saw in the season one finale 'Redemption', the second season will heavily feature Giancarlo Esposito's Moff Gideon, last seen wielding the darksaber. That in itself should provide enough fodder for eight episodes, but we're now hearing that one of the most iconic of all Star Wars characters might make an appearance: Luke Skywalker.

Batgirl Will Reportedly Introduce A Latino Bane Into The DCEU
Warner Bros.' Batgirl has been in development for a very long time. Once a Joss Whedon project, the failure of Justice League and allegations from his ex-wife that he was a serial cheater got him kicked off the movie and put it on the back burner. But now, there are signs of life. Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson is reportedly developing a screenplay and the studio are searching for an actress to don the cape and cowl.

MCU Fans Freaking Out Over Sam Raimi Directing Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness
About a month ago, we got the shock announcement that director Scott Derrickson had left Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. That old chestnut of creative differences was cited, with there reportedly being tension over the intensity of the horror elements in the movie. The search for a replacement began immediately and at the top of my list was The Evil Dead and Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi. Experience with superhero movies. Check. Experience with horror. Check. Dynamic visual style in keeping with Doctor Strange. Big check.

Mad Max: The Wasteland Reportedly Greenlit And Set To Shoot This Fall
Mad Max is back, baby! The Road Warrior blasted back onto screens in 2015 with Mad Max: Fury Road and gave the long-dormant franchise a shot of adrenaline. That film went on to critical acclaim and picked up ten well-deserved Academy Awards nomination, including Best Picture and Best Director. Since its release director George Miller has been hyping up the follow-up to the movie, teasing spinoff Furiosa and Mad Max 5: Mad Max: The Wasteland.
