The Exorcist Hit Theaters 43 Years Ago Today
On the 26th of December 1973 William Friedkin's The Exorcist hit theaters. Horror hasn't been the same since. The absolutely terrifying movie contains several indelible cinematic images, was controversial at the time, went on to be banned in many countries and spawned four sequels and two television series (and a stage adaptation featuring Ian McKellan as Pazuzu!). But let's get back to that 1973 premiere and find out how unwitting audiences reacted to what they found.

Palpatine Will Reportedly Return In Darth Maul Disney Plus Show
Sick of Emperor Palpatine yet? His inclusion in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has proved to be divisive, with many arguing that bringing in a villain who we all saw die back at the end of Return of the Jedi smacked of desperation. Still, no one can deny that Ian McDiarmid doesn't deliver the goods as Palpatine and his moustache-twirling villainy is at least entertaining to watch.

Disney Announces Release Date For Their Mandalorian Baby Yoda Plushie
Tomorrow will see the finale of Disney Plus' The Mandalorian. Even without having seen that final episode I think it's safe to say the show has been a wild success. It's been critically acclaimed, praised by fans and looks even better when contrasted with the disappointing mess that was Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. One element that's been particularly well-received is, of course, Baby Yoda (officially known as 'The Child').

Kevin Smith Reveals His Secret Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Cameo
Disney's Sequel Trilogy has become known for its secret cameos. The Force Awakens featured Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig in uncredited roles, The Last Jedi saw Princes William and Harry, Tom Hardy, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Edgar Wright and Gareth Edwards pop up in the movie and in deleted scenes, and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has now continued the pace, popping in Lin-Manuel Miranda, John Williams and Ed Sheeran. But there's one cameo that the person involved is over the moon about: Kevin Smith finally making an on-screen appearance in a Star Wars movie.

George Lucas Said The Emperor Was Definitely Dead Before Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker
I didn't particularly enjoy Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It was confusingly plotted, had very little sense of tension and repeatedly walked back the interesting elements of the previous film. But one thing I felt really dragged the movie down was J.J. Abrams' decision to resurrect Emperor Palpatine. We last saw him on screen being hurled into the reactor core of the second Death Star and exploding, shortly before the Death Star itself exploded. You might think that would finish the guy off, but he's come back to life for reasons the film doesn't care about going into.
