I'm a writer/editor who's been at the site since 2015. I cover politics, weird history, video games and... well, anything really. Keep it breezy, keep it light, keep it straightforward.
Warner Bros seriously messed up when it came to Justice League. Having regarded Marvel Studios' The Avengers success with envious eyes they set out to replicate it. But where the MCU established their heroes across five movies before going for the team-up Warner Bros opted for just two. Then there was the famously chaotic behind-the-scenes drama, with Zack Snyder being booted from the project after executives got cold feet based on the critical mauling of Batman v Superman. Large portions of the movie were reshot with Joss Whedon - with the finished product limping into cinemas under a cloud of bad vibes and proceeding to disappoint pretty much everyone that saw it.
From the moment Detective Pikachu was unveiled there were rumors that psychic Pokémon Mewtwo would be the villain of the piece. After all, he played a villainous role in The First Pokémon Movie and is one of the few Pokémon in the franchise to be generally considered evil. Last week we even got a new poster for the movie that was literally crawling with different Pokémon, and if you looked really carefully you could just about make out Mewtwo's silhouette on top of a skyscraper in the distance.
The Walt Disney Corporation is soon to conclude its merger with Fox, the most attention-grabbing feature of which will be Marvel Studios being able to use the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters in the MCU. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. On top of that, Disney is also getting an enormous amount of rights to classic properties that sound like an odd fit for the House of Mouse. Can you imagine Disney's Alien, Donald Duck vs Predator? Goofy teaming up with Mulder and Scully to investigate a seriously weird crime? Perhaps the weirdest is that it seems that Disney will soon be releasing a remake of The Fly.
Captain Picard will be back on our screens sooner rather than later, and these newly released character breakdowns for his Star Trek give us some good clues as to the tone of the series.
Resident Evil 2 frequently scares the living daylights out of me. There are few sounds in modern games that send chills up my spine quicker than the *thud* *thud* *thud* of Mr. X's hulking footsteps. But at least you can turn the console off and escape them, right? Wrong. As players of Tencent's PUBG MOBILE will know, the shambling undead, vicious lickers and even (if you're very unlucky) the Tyrant have all been menacing folks in the special Survive Till Dawn mode.
With the Star Wars: Episode IX shoot having recently wrapped, fans are getting antsy about when we're going to get our first real look at the closing entry in Disney's Sequel Trilogy. With radio silence from Lucasfilm, many have latched onto C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels' Twitter account, which has been sending out enigmatic messages that a lot of folks have assumed might be teasing the release of the first trailer.
You have to feel a bit of sympathy for Ben Affleck. Coming off the high of winning a Best Picture Oscar for Argo, he was offered the role of Batman. While his career as a director was in the ascendant, no actor is going to turn down the chance to play the Dark Knight. Despite the constant sniping from the annoying 'Batfleck' crowd I couldn't wait to see what he'd make of the role. Then Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice received a critical mauling, followed by Justice League's hellish production and endless reshoots, which was eventually capped off by a stint at a rehab clinic for alcoholism and him resigning from the role before The Batman begins production.. After all that I'd forgive Affleck for never wanting to look at a batsymbol again in his life.
Captain Marvel is poised to be the first major blockbuster of the year, with fans eager to get what could be the biggest year for the MCU yet started. And yet, amongst all the excitement there's a note of melancholy. After all, Captain Marvel will be the first MCU movie to be released since Stan Lee died last November. Lee's cameos in Marvel movies have become iconic, with generations of new fans learning to recognise and appreciate the man responsible for their favorite heroes.
Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall 2 came out on October 28th 2016, a week after Battlefield 1 and a week before Call of Duty: Infinity Warfare. Faced with competing against those two FPS giants, Titanfall 2 proved to be a sales disappointment. This was enormously unfair, as the game had an exceptional single-player campaign, wonderful multiplayer and some of the finest and most fluid movement yet seen in the FPS genre. Respawn had the last laugh though, with Apex Legends now having busted through the 50 million player mark and looking as if it's set to challenge Fortnite as king of the battle royale genre.
