With just a little more than a week separating now from the movie that many of us have been waiting our entire lives for - that, of course, being Justice League - I think it's safe to say that anticipation levels have reached critical mass. As such, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep major spoilers off the internet because we're no longer relying on magazines like, say, Starlog to get our information as we did when we were younger.
Even though Greg Berlanti and company have crafted quite the interconnected DC Universe over on The CW, there are still some big names that have yet to put in appearances. And as awesome as those fall crossovers tend to be, it’s hard to imagine a DC Universe existing without certain characters – like Batman, for one.
If you've been keeping up with Legends of Tomorrow this season, then you're well aware of how it's been a time for change. Not only have the crew of the Waverider had to deal with displaced anachronisms for the past few weeks, but they've had to do it without the aid of their former captain, Rip Hunter.
Say what you want about MTV’s television reboot of the Scream franchise, but it made for one hell of a ride, often getting darker and more disturbing than the Wes Craven films ever did. But even after turning in an incredible second season, declining ratings became impossible to overlook, though we could at least find some consolation in the fact that it’d been renewed for a third season to consist of six episodes. Needless to say, that’d provide ample time to wrap up some notably huge dangling threads.
For those of you who have been following Legends of Tomorrow this fall, you may agree with me in saying that the current season is on track to being the best yet. Not only is the cast gelling more perfectly than ever before, but the writers have found a nice balance between humor and drama, while also crafting one of the best superhero shows on airwaves - and this is coming from a guy who'd been highly critical of past efforts.
While bloodthirsty fanboys will forever continue the DC vs. Marvel debate, the fact of the matter is that there are many of us who enjoy stories released by both publishers. Furthermore, it's important we not overlook that countless talented writers and artists have switched sides throughout their illustrious careers. Heck, even John Romita Jr. made the jump to DC a few years back.
A few short years ago, Arrow was merely but a standalone show on The CW – and superpowers didn’t exist in that universe. Obviously, that changed before long when Barry Allen was introduced in season 2, thereby serving as a springboard to his own hit series, The Flash. And, in the time since, what’s been appropriately dubbed the “Arrowverse” has expanded with the likes of Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. Well, the latter is technically part of a broader multiverse, but that truly illustrates just how far we’ve come.
If you enjoy movies of a darker nature, then you may agree with us in saying that not only was The Silence of the Lambs one of the best horror/thriller flicks the 1990's produced, but perhaps one of the greatest of all time. Admittedly, we could probably talk about the many things that made it special all day, chief among which were Anthony Hopkins' chilling performance as Hannibal Lecter and Buffalo Bill's legendary dance scene set to "Goodbye Horses" by Q Lazzarus - but let's talk about the good doctor for a moment, shall we?
As is the case with any TV series, you have your standout characters that steal the show whenever they appear on screen. Perhaps you’ll agree with me here, because, in my opinion, Captain Cold and Heat Wave have risen above the rest of the pack when it comes to Legends of Tomorrow. Played by Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, respectively, these two thieves-turned-heroes went from being relatively unknown to the mainstream to being household names thanks to some fine performances.
When Zack Snyder enlisted Jeffrey Dean Morgan for a cameo role as Thomas Wayne in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, who would’ve thought that he’d just stumbled backwards into casting the perfect Dark(er) Knight for an eventual Flashpoint movie? I mean, lots of fans wished for such a thing and the memes have long been out there, but that didn’t mean any of us were prepared for the Flash’s solo movie to be rebranded as such this past summer at San Diego Comic-Con.
