With each passing day, it sure is looking like "Crisis on Infinite Earths" is shaping up to be a crossover like no other. To those familiar with the comic book on which the TV adaptation is based, that's expected, because Marv Wolfman and George Perez's classic from the 1980's remains one of DC's biggest and most popular tales ever told.
When it comes to Batman: Hush, you could say I've waited years for it to be adapted to a movie - because I have. It goes without saying that every fan of the Caped Crusader who reads comics has a favorite storyline to call their own, and mine is the classic written by Jeph Loeb and illustrated by Jim Lee. Finally, the talented folks developing these DC animated films were given the green light to bring it to life.
When it comes to enduring characters like superheroes, it's just expected that they be continually recast as time passes. But in the case of specific ones, there exists a certain beauty due to them having successors in the comic books. And to my delight, we're already seeing this play out in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Sam Wilson AKA the Falcon is now running with the torch as Captain America.
When it comes to an enduring icon such as Batman, pretty much everybody has a favorite actor in mind whenever the Caped Crusader comes up in conversation. And that's understandable, because this character has been consistently recast since first appearing on the silver screen all the way back in 1943, when Louis Wilson donned cape and floppy cowl.
Based on all we've been hearing, the upcoming silver screen reboot of Mortal Kombat will be quite different from past films adapting the beloved video game franchise. Of course, this was to be expected from anything scrapping previously established continuity.
Though the first Mortal Kombat film wasn't perfect by any means, the 1995 effort deservedly remains a cult classic to this day. After all, it's actually one of the better video game adaptations out there, which is something especially remarkable because it was based on a tournament fighter. The 1997 followup, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, fell short of its predecessor, but hey, at least it had a kick-ass soundtrack (I'm forever indebted to it for introducing me to Rammstein).
As Arrow's eighth and final season draws near, I can't help noticing how much we've been talking about Oliver Queen. I mean, it's expected because he's the lead character, but this show has always boasted a rich ensemble. That said, the discussion will shift to someone else today.
Odd as it may seem, a certain Amazon Warrior hasn't actually headlined an animated film of her own since 2009's Wonder Woman. She's played a huge part in numerous direct-to-video Justice League flicks in the time since, sure, but it's probably safe to say her fanbase has been waiting with bated breath for some sort of followup.
If you haven't been watching Black Lightning for the past two seasons, well, then you've really been missing out. In my view, it's consistently been among the better DC TV shows out there, especially when it comes to those airing on The CW.
As you may have heard, we were all given a heads up to stick around after the credits for Swamp Thing's season finale. So if you didn't do as instructed, be sure to fire up the concluding episode once again so that you be treated to an additional scene.
