Knowing that the “I am Bane” story arc currently unfolding in the pages of Batman will conclude with issue #20 early next month, it’s probably time to start talking about what’s to come afterward.
Once Marvel finally divulged the first details regarding its next major crossover event, Secret Empire, one of the first things we learned was that it would kick off with a special zero issue. This practice isn’t uncommon as preludes such as these often catch up lapsed readers before the main narrative commences. But, given the interiors included in the gallery at the top, it looks like even those who are up to date on all things Marvel shouldn’t skip this.
While Marvel and DC battle to see who wins at the box office, it’s virtually inarguable that it's the latter who dominates the small screen. Now having taken over four nights of the week when it comes to prime time programming, serialized superhero storytelling has swiftly become a cornerstone in the lives of many a geek these days.
With superheroes dominating both the box office and the airwaves these days, it comes as no surprise that the critically acclaimed X-Men spinoff series known as Legion also resonated with audiences at large. As such, FX has elected to renew the show for a second season as Eric Schrier and Nick Grad, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, announced jointly today.
As a nearly lifelong fan of the X-Men, I'm happy to see the mutants regaining prominence among Marvel's vast publishing line. With ResurrXion soon kicking off, one title that many will have their eyes affixed to is undoubtedly that of Weapon X.
From what we can tell, Marvel will really be heating up things this summer. In an effort to supplement the main narrative to be offered in the crossover event known as Secret Empire, the publisher will release a few one-shots in June – two of which we’ve already learned to be Secret Empire: Uprising and Secret Empire: United – the former of which is set to feature a Black Widow who is rounding up a young generation of heroes to join the fight, with the latter focused on Emma Frost and the X-Men standing their ground against the forces of Hydra.
Freely speaking, the currently in progress “Superman Reborn” crossover has been nothing short of breathtaking. After recently learning that the fake Clark Kent was, in fact, Mr. Mxyzptlk all along, we eventually had to come to grips with the knowledge that several other Rebirth mysteries are to be unraveled before the month concludes. As it turns out, the penultimate chapter offered in Superman #19 raised even more questions before the can’t miss finale.
No matter if it be either the New 52 or Rebirth eras, short and sweet story arcs have pretty much been the rule when it comes to Harley Quinn. Sure, there’s always a grand tapestry, but writers Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti don’t dwell on the same threads for too long and have instead opted to tell as many crazy tales starring the pop culture princess as possible. And, nine times out of ten, it’s worked like a charm.
When the latest volume of The Unbelievable Gwenpool came across my desk, I knew that I couldn’t pass up the chance to review it. After all, there’s been so much hubbub surrounding this recently introduced character, so it’s about time that I see what the big deal is and take a closer look at her.
In 1986, Kurt Russell ran into the mystic night in Big Trouble in Little China. That same year, Tom Cruise rode into the danger zone in Top Gun. Now, 31 years later, The Flash ventures "Into The Speed Force."
