Gerard Butler White House actioner, Olympus Has Fallen, is getting a sequel. Yes, all of that cheesy dialogue, convoluted scenarios and beefcakery will be back in play for the follow-up, London Has Fallen. As the film is fast approaching the start of its shoot, we've got news of the first newbie added to the cast: Oscar-nominated actor, Jackie Earle Haley.
In the last two days there's been a joyous excitement spreading through the Internet like wildfire - and it's not because of a new cat meme. The Ghostbusters reboot that's been in the works for eons took a massive step forward when news landed that the film had bagged a new writer. Katie Dippold is now on the project, and will co-write the flick with Paul Feig. This will mark a reunion for the pair who brought us last year's absolutely brilliant buddy cop movie, The Heat. Needless to say, for the most part, fans of the spook franchise are over the moon.
This weekend marks the release of The Jim Henson Company's latest live-action adaptation, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which is set to kickstart their next round of features. It looks like they're not waiting to see how it fares at the box office, as Variety reports that they are making headway on another adaptation. Which Witch?, based on the 1979 novel by Eva Ibbotson, is steamrolling ahead with Billy Crystal attached to lead, co-write and produce the animated adventure. They also let slip another very exciting tidbit: a Labyrinth sequel is in development.
This week, we've been graced with many, many posters for Peter Jackson's unnecessary trilogy-closer, The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Martin Freeman's Bilbo, Ian McKellen's Gandalf and Cate Blanchett's Galadriel have all struck a pose in character to ensure a full-on marketing bombardment. They're not to blame for this excessive poster malarkey, they're just doing their jobs. Nevertheless, New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. are gonna make damn sure you know there's another trek back to Middle Earth on the cards this December.
The anticipated fifth instalment of the Terminator franchise, Terminator Genisys, finished shooting in New Orleans this past August. Appearing in the latest battle against Skynet are Emilia Clarke as the badass Sarah Connor, Jason Clarke as her son John Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese and Arnold Schwarzennegger, who's reprising his role as the now-aged T-800. Aside from the cast list, there's little else to go on. Or is there?
It's a question heard throughout many homes during the holiday season. No, not "Who spiked the eggnog with lighter fuel?" We're talking about the big man himself, Santa Claus, and whether or not he truly exists. I'm still out on this one, but it seems that one filmmaker firmly believes in Saint Nicholas. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower writer-director, Stephen Chbosky, has signed up to direct the festival family romp Santa Is Real, which will also double as a musical to add a dose of extra holiday jollies!
Just to recap, so far this week we've heard news that Uncle Buck, In The Heat Of The Night and Say Anything have been earmarked for TV treatment. While Say Anything has already been canned due to original director-writer Cameron Crowe's vocal disapproval of the project, there's still a clear trend emerging. And that's not taking into account other titles announced in recent months; Real Genius, Minority Report and Rush Hour. With TV networks increasingly turning to film for inspiration (caused by a lack thereof), today we can add another title to the list, as Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs is now destined for the small screen.
While eagerly-awaited flicks often broadcast exclusive clips to a restricted crowd during Cons (San Diego Comic-Con, for one), the rest of the world are left to pore over written descriptions. At New York Comic Con this week, attendees were treated to a batch of new footage from Disney Animation's upcoming robot caper, Big Hero 6. Luckily, the studio anticipated fan desire, and have now uploaded the reel to their YouTube channel.
The team behind Joe Carnahan's action comedy Stretch are having a blast with a marketing approach that's equally as esoteric as the movie's content. Following on from a stream of clips, behind-the-scenes footage and the first trailer, treat yourself to a gander at the glorious red-band trailer. The normal MPAA titlecard has been scuppered in favour of a custom-made version you can see above. Beware, it's NSFW, or as the Stretch YouTube channel puts it: "Not appropriate for the office, depending on where you work, I guess..."
In hot pursuit of yesterday's first look, Disney has dropped the first teaser trailer for sci-fi adventure, Tomorrowland. After being shrouded in secrecy since production began, the excitement surrounding Brad Bird's latest pic appears to be completely justified.
