Big Hero 6 NYCC Footage Pits Good Bots Against Bad Bots

While eagerly-awaited flicks often broadcast exclusive clips to a restricted crowd during Cons (San Diego Comic-Con, for one), the rest of the world are left to pore over written descriptions. At New York Comic Con this week, attendees were treated to a batch of new footage from Disney Animation's upcoming robot caper, Big Hero 6. Luckily, the studio anticipated fan desire, and have now uploaded the reel to their YouTube channel.

The previous trailers for the movie, touted as a “heartfelt comedy adventure,” followed a young robotics genius called Hiro. When a major catastrophe strikes his hometown of San Fransokyo, he turns to his closest friend: the bumbling softie, Baymax.

The two minute “sizzle reel” shown at the convention today opens up matters a bit more, giving us a glimpse at the villain of the piece, who looks like he’ll provide quite the challenge for our two protagonists. Also, sweet, adorable Baymax continues to provide the bulk of laughs here, largely due to Scott Adsit’s brilliantly-unaware delivery as he makes his way through the world. It’s a fantastic look at what’s shaping up to be an exciting film and I’m definitely eager to see more.

Big Hero 6 opens in theatres on November 7th. Check out the footage above, and plot synopsis below, and let us know what you think in the comments!

“Big Hero 6” is a heartfelt comedy adventure about robotics prodigy Hiro Hamada, who learns to harness his genius—thanks to his brilliant brother Tadashi and their like-minded friends: adrenaline junkie Go Go Tamago, clean freak Wasabi No-Ginger, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred. When a devastating turn of events catapults them into the midst of a dangerous plot unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo, Hiro turns to his closest companion—a cutting-edge robot named Baymax—and transforms the group into a band of high-tech heroes determined to solve the mystery. Inspired by the Marvel comics of the same name, and featuring comic-book style action and all the heart and humor audiences expect from Walt Disney Animation Studios, “Big Hero 6” is directed by Don Hall (“Winnie the Pooh”) and Chris Williams (“Bolt”), and produced by Roy Conli (“Tangled”). The film hits theaters in 3D on November 7, 2014.
