Production on the Ash Vs. Evil Dead series has kicked off in New Zealand, reuniting original core trio Sam Raimi, Bob Tapert and Bruce Campbell, who will all reprise their roles as director, producer and star, respectively. One other defining element of Deadite lore is now poised to re-appear thanks to the first promo shot of the creative trio: Raimi's 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88. The yellow saloon has made cameos in every single one of the director's films to date, and served as the titular buffoon's own ride in the first few Evil Deads.
Following in the wake of this week's dino-heavy second trailer for Jurassic World, a brand new clip has debuted over on the movie's official Twitter account. Focusing on the newest, most fearful creature ever cooked up in a lab, there's no mistaking who the star attraction of the latest prehistoric park is: the Indominus Rex. This snippet may only stretch to 43 seconds long, but to be frank, that's more than enough time to become acquainted with the terrifying beastie.
The heroes in a half-shell will be back on the big screen next summer and today brings word of another live-action actor slated to join them. Tyler Perry, most recently spotted in David Fincher's Gone Girl, has been added to the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 as scientist Baxter Stockman. He joins returning cast members Megan Fox and Will Arnett, who are locked in to reprise their roles as intrepid Channel 6 reporter April O'Neil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick, respectively.
A month back, our very own Matt Donato sat down with Jason Blum at SXSW to chat about techno-horror Unfriended, and during their chat he managed to slip in a question about Area 51. The found footage horror produced through Blum's own production company and directed by Paranormal Activity's Oren Peli was completed in 2008. At the time, Blum confirmed that it would see the light of day at some point, and today that 'point' is now confirmed to be early May. And with less than a month until the long-awaited alien-tinged flick lands, it's no surprise that a trailer has debuted.
In the aftermath of last week's Star Wars Celebration event, during which a plethora of details on the series were unveiled, two new names have been linked to the first standalone movie. As reported by The Wrap, Nightcrawler star Riz Ahmed and The Hunger Games' Sam Claflin are being sought for parts in Star Wars: Rogue One. The pair are said to be hot contenders for two separate roles in the movie's vast resistance army.
From its opening shot through to its final fade out, the first trailer for Black Mass revolves solely upon the unnerving performance of its leading man. Known for his loyalty to Disney's Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise, Johnny Depp is turning his back on Bruckheimer's swashbuckling series for a gritty real-life drama he can sink his teeth into. And judging by the message he imparts over this compelling two-minute trailer, it's probably going to get bloody.
In addition to its amusingly micro-sized marketing efforts, Marvel is beginning to roll out more traditional elements of its pre-release campaign for Ant-Man. The second trailer oozed with crazy stature-related antics and its first motion poster kept up the same 'our hero is TINY' perspective. In this latest drop, there's a chance to see how Scott Lang, the titular man, began his tenure as Ant-Man.
One of the newest recruits into the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be extending her stay. Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlet Witch, makes her Marvel debut in Avengers: Age Of Ultron and will seemingly survive the events therein. During the UK press tour for the upcoming superhero sequel, Olsen - in a roundabout sort of way - confirmed that she would be back for Phase Three opener Captain America: Civil War.
Ever since the Sony-Marvel deal was made official, there's been only one question on everyone's lips: who's playing Spider-Man? The decision for the two studios to enact a co-op agreement permitting the webslinger entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe is huge. Its effects will be felt for years to come by hardcore Spidey fans, who will at long last be gifted a fully-sanctioned-by-Kevin-Feige version of the iconic superhero. And while we're still none the wiser as to who precisely will suit up in the red-and-blue spandex getup, thanks to a tidbit from Steve at Collider we know that we're one step closer to finding out.
After securing a Best Supporting Actor statuette from the Academy for his turn in Whiplash, J.K. Simmons is venturing into solid genre territory. This summer his grizzled cop will team up with Sarah Connor to battle evil robotic overlords in Terminator: Genisys, and after that? He's sticking around in sci-fi town.
