The expansion of Nintendo's "New" branding to Yoshi's Island platformers is a bit disappointing, but that doesn't mean Yoshi's New Island isn't shaping up to be quite the worthy third entry to the series. Fittingly, the launch of the game will be accompanied by a green 3DS XL, emblazoned with some old-school Yoshi art. None of that Yoshi's Story junk.
Guys, Persona 5 is real. Until recently, though, it wasn't officially confirmed for US and Canadian gamers. Thankfully, Atlus has righted this terrifying wrong in a recent press release, confirming not just Persona 5, but Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
I don't recall a game in recent memory getting as much attention as Titanfall . Well, that's not entirely true - I think Flappy Bird was probably more popular. No mere mortal can hope to match Dong Nguyen's mastery of viral trends, though, and so I think it's only fair to say that Titanfall takes the cake. It's a good thing these new bundles will make it relatively easy to take the plunge on the game. The news of a "Special Edition" Xbox One Titanfall bundle comes via Xbox.com, and it's a pretty good deal considering the console on its own was $499 until very recently. According to a statement from Microsoft Corporate Vice President of Marketing Yusef Mehdi, the bundle represents "something special," and will include the following.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is a gorgeous game. It's also a hideous game, if you stick your face in some of those muddy, poo-brown textures. Whether this is due to inefficiencies in the game engine or simply outdated console hardware (though GTA V would argue otherwise), we all know there's one thing that can salvage any console effort's visual shortcoming if done correctly -- a PC version.
Well, this is cool. Nintendo announced in its Nintendo Direct stream earlier today a game called Rusty's Real Deal Baseball. Kind of odd and random, I know, but here's the fun bit - players can haggle in-game character Rusty on the price of paid game portions once the demo expires, and depending on your persuasion skills, you can actually talk down the game's real-life cost. The games start at $4, so I imagine significant savings are possible if you're convincing.
Listen up, kids - did you play the original Donkey Kong Country Returns on Wii? Did you like the music? Well too bad - it was terrible. Aside from a few re-imaginings of classic tunes, the new compositions were forgettable at best. The music for the beach levels, especially, makes me cringe with boredom. That is, they would make me cringe - if I could even remember how they went. Luckily, Nintendo seems to have remedied this for the upcoming Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.
Mario Kart 8! As easy as it is to shrug off the existence of a new Mario Kart, it's equally as easy to squeal in delight upon watching the trailers Nintendo has been slowly trickling out leading up to the game's release. Today, the company finally dropped the info we've been wanting - Mario Kart 8 will hit the Wii U on May 30th.
Bravely Default peppers a classic formula with some new innovations, and if it's in your wheelhouse then you likely already know it. The job system is the best part of the experience, and if you can muster the motivation, this aspect alone could easily soak up dozens of extra play hours spent customizing. Given its cliche story and silly personalities, though, motivation may be a difficult thing to come by.
Bad news for Batman: Arkham Origins fans - it looks like the game's nagging progression bugs won't be remedied any time soon. The news comes via a community manager on the Arkham Origins support forums, in an odd cross between an apology, a thank-you, and an excuse.
Jeff Bezos likes to buy things. He bought the Washington Post with his own pocket money and Amazon purchased Zappos in 2009 and Goodreads in 2013. And now, the house that Bezos built is annexing a videogame studio - Killer Instinct and Strider developer Double Helix Games.
