Though the biggest Comic-Con event of the day so far has undoubtedly been Zack Snyder's unveiling of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Legendary's news today about Godzilla personally excites me much more. At Comic-Con, the studio has revealed that Godzilla helmer Gareth Edwards will be back on board for Godzilla 2, and that the sequel is going to boast a lot more of the big green lizard monster himself.
Briefly: With James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy riding a wave of critical acclaim to its August 1st release date, Marvel has no reason not to feel confident in the tentpole. And today, at the San Diego Comic-Con, the studio announced that it would be doubling up on the property, with news that Guardians of the Galaxy will come to the small screen in the form of an animated series.
Marvel has been steadily unveiling pieces of an awesome concept art poster for its upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron, which depict the titular superhero team battling valiantly against Ultron's army of killer robots. Wednesday kicked the unveiling off with shots of Iron Man and Scarlet Witch brawling with the 'bots, Thursday saw reveals for Captain America and Black Widow, then Marvel gave us Quicksilver, Vision and Hawkeye yesterday. Today, the studio has completed the truly incredible poster with cool shots of Thor and the Hulk helping to thin out Ultron's numbers.
Fox has aroused our curiosity at its Comic-Con panel last night by opting not to include anything for Josh Trank's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, which finds Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell stepping into the key roles of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/The Human Torch and Ben Grimm/The Thing (respectively). However, we may get a few scoops out of the tentpole yet.
"Lana? Lana? [deep breath] LANAAAA!" "WHAT?" Oh right - now that I've got your attention, Archer came to Comic-Con this year, and it was pretty awesome. At the panel, audiences got a sneak peek at the opener for the beloved spy comedy's upcoming sixth season then got a Q&A session with voice-actors H. Jon Benjamin, Aisha Tyler, Chris Parnell, Judy Greer, Amber Nash and Lucky Yates, plus creator Adam Reed and co-executive producer Casey Willis.
24 years after Tremors hit theaters, did you actually think you were safe at last from those pesky graboids? Think again - a remake of the beloved horror comedy still has a pulse and is actually ramping up for production sooner than we had thought. Not that we were asking for one, but it might be fun to revisit the premise with more modern special effects, trading out Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward for two modern-day comedians (anyone else want Key and Peele to take this?).
Sure, this fall is going to bring the requisite horror schlock like Ouija and Annabelle, but what I'm looking forward to way more is Alexandre Aja's twisted, darkly funny Horns, a horror thriller about a young man (Daniel Radcliffe) who wakes up one morning to find that he's suspected of his girlfriend's murder and that he's sprouted rather noticeable horns. Now, following a Comic-Con panel for the movie, RADiUS-TWC has dropped a great new trailer for the film, highlighting its blend of horror, murder mystery and black comedy.
The tangled, complex nature of American foreign policy in the Middle East has proven to be extremely fertile ground for filmmakers over the past few years. FX's Tyrant is currently exploring the geopolitics of a fictional Middle Eastern nation with shades of Iraq and Afghanistan, The Hurt Locker won an Oscar for tackling the dangerous days of a bomb squad in Iraq and Syriana dealt with issues of oil politics, to name a few of many. Now, AMC is gearing up for its own geopolitical drama - titled White City.
Comic-Con has so far seen some exciting features for Warner Bros.' Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron, but one film that's been totally silent so far is Fox's X-Men: Apocalypse. Planned to follow this summer's Days of Future Past, the superhero film will find members of the X-Men dealing with the incredibly powerful ancient mutant known as Apocalypse.
Every year, HBO's high fantasy series Game of Thrones adds a bevy of new characters, and the show's upcoming fifth season will be no different. At Comic-Con yesterday, the premium cable network announced the casting of actors in nine key roles. The list includes a recasting of Myrcella Baratheon (Cersei's daughter, last seen being carted off to Dorne for her own protection way back in season 2) and the addition of the High Sparrow, an important character who becomes a big part of King's Landing next season. Other roles include multiple inhabitants of the kingdom of Dorne, homeland of the ill-fated Oberyn Martell.
