When I first heard that Paddington Bear, a beloved figure of children's literature, was being brought to the big screen in a movie called Paddington, I wasn't entirely opposed to the concept. After all, Michael Bond's Paddington books don't hold the same sway that they used to, and introducing the adorable bear of the title to a new generation seemed like a promising idea. Then, on the heels of two images for the film (and the hilarious Creepy Paddington meme that quickly followed), the first trailer hit the web.
Though I'll admit that I was at first skeptical of Universal resuscitating the long-dormant Jurassic Park franchise for a fourth installment, Jurassic World look pretty damn cool. The plot details we've gotten so far, which focus on the fully operational theme park of the title and a mutated dinosaur hybrid, are extremely tantalizing, and the cast that director Colin Trevorrow (Safety Not Guaranteed) is working with is stellar. Today, we have some official images from Jurassic World, which show off the talented lead actors without unveiling any of the scaly dinosaurs quite yet.
J.J. Abrams, a notoriously secretive director, has actually already revealed most if not all of the main cast members for his upcoming Star Wars Episode VII. I, for one, wasn't expecting even that much from the upcoming blockbuster (which hits theaters next December), but the sheer amount of news related to Star Wars that has been pouring out of Hollywood in the past few weeks has been stunning. Today, we've got yet another interesting rumor related to the film. IGN Middle East reports that Simon Pegg was recently spotted on the Star Wars set in Abu Dhabi and in fact has a secret role.
When Homeland returns to television this fall, fans of the Showtime political thriller will have to come to terms with a dramatically transformed show. Brody (Damian Lewis) is dead and gone, his wife Jessica (Morena Baccarin) and children Dana (Morgan Saylor) and Chris (Jackson Pace) are no longer part of the show, and protagonist Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), heavily pregnant with Brody's child, has become the CIA's station chief in Istanbul. Even Saul (Mandy Patinkin) is facing changes, now that he's been fired from the CIA.
They survived high school in Freaks and Geeks, went on the run to escape a dangerous drug lord in Pineapple Express and even faced the apocalypse together in This Is The End. Now, comedy kingpins Seth Rogen and James Franco are teaming up again in The Interview for their most perilous (and offensive) mission yet: to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un. Too far? Probably, but that's half the fun.
Looks like Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson are through being haunted. Though the duo starred in the ultra-successful horror flick Insidious and its sequel, Insidious: Chapter 3 will bring new blood to the franchise. Today, it was announced that Stefanie Scott, who will star in Blumhouse's upcoming Jem and the Holograms and has appeared on the Disney sitcom A.N.T. Farm, is taking on the leading role in the threequel.
After breaking out in an absolutely huge way with the comedy smash Bridesmaids, former Saturday Night Live actress Kristen Wiig is prepping for her directorial debut - and to take on the challenge, she's enlisting the help of longtime collaborator Annie Mumolo. The pair, who previously co-wrote Bridesmaids, will write, produce and star in a currently untitled comedy for TriStar, which Wiig is expected to helm.
When comediennes Amy Poehler and Tina Fey blew the roof off the Golden Globes (two years in a row), the general sentiment circulating through Hollywood was, "Somebody get these two a movie - stat!" Of course, Fey was coming off 30 Rock at the time and had some very promising movie roles on her plate, and Poehler was starring in Parks & Recreation, so the real challenge was to find a time when the pair had mutual openings in their schedules and would be willing to team up on the big screen.
It seems that not a day goes by without Star Wars news of some sort. However, the scoop that Schmoes Know claims it has verified today is actually pretty interesting - though it seems to contradict news we heard a few weeks back. According to a "very trusted source" of the site, Lawrence Kasdan, who wrote Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and co-scribed the upcoming Episode VII, is working on a Boba Fett spinoff for Disney and Lucasfilm.
The great thing about premium cable networks is that they actually understand television shows need time to build an audience. So, when Starz's 50 Cent-produced crime drama Power debuted down from the network's pirate series Black Sails but roughly on par with limited series The White Queen, it certainly wasn't a kiss of death for the show. In fact, Starz today displayed its confidence in the Omari Hardwick-led series by picking it up for an expanded second season.
