Fans of AMC's critically-adored drama Breaking Bad can rejoice, as the first half of the series' fifth and final season will be coming to your computer screens very shortly.
For years, American audiences have suffered through remakes, re-imaginings and rip-offs that exist for absolutely no good reason. Don't believe me? Take a look at this year. Fede Alvarez's ultra-gory Evil Dead update may have been better than expected, but did we need it? I think Sam Raimi's low-budget original will always be the ultimate. This October, a remake of Carrie will hit theaters, starring Chloe Moretz and Julianne Moore, which begs the question, what part really needed an update? Brian de Palma's original was a great horror flick, and it holds up pretty well today. I'm interested to see what Moretz does in the role Sissy Spacek made famous, but I can't think of anything that really justifies this reboot's existence. Can you? And I want people to see and become obsessed with Park Chan-Wook's terrifically twisted original Oldboy, not this October's Spike Lee version.
It's about time some news came out about Avatar 2, the sequel to James Cameron's epic sci-fi fantasy film, which four long years ago broke box office records to become the highest-grossing film of all time.
Neill Blomkamp's highly anticipated follow-up to District 9 is hitting theaters on August 9, and it's already at the top of my watchlist. As part of a massive marketing campaign from Sony, a massive four-minute trailer has landed online, along with a clip revealing just how brutal Elysium's anti-immigration policies are and a host of new pictures showing star Matt Damon fighting with the aid of a painful-looking exoskeleton, co-star Diego Luna, and one of Elysium's robot protectors.
The CW's line-up is about to get a whole lot more super. Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, the creators of the channel's hit superhero action series Arrow, are planning to feature DC speedster The Flash on three episodes of Arrow's second season before moving him to his own series, entitled (duh) Flash.
Though Dexter will wrap up its eighth and final season this September, SHOWTIME is understandably reluctant to watch one of its most successful original series come to a close, so news of a potential spin-off is hardly shocking.
Many look back fondly on Matthew Vaughn's 2010 superhero action comedy Kick-Ass, myself included. The film was a fun, oddball pastiche of brutal action and coarsely self-referential dialogue, bold enough to give star Chloe Moretz (then only eleven) lines so filthy they can't be printed here and glorify unabashedly brutal violence, often at the same time.
After gleefully slicing and dicing his way through the blood-soaked Evil Dead remake earlier this year, Uruguayan director Fede Alvarez has found his next project - a sci-fi action film called Machina.
Universal's upcoming action comedy 2 Guns has unveiled a wealth of new clips and images showcasing banter between leads Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington as well as some furious-looking action.
NBC is planning to administer a double dose of classic horror, with the news that the network is moving forward with miniseries adaptations of both Roman Polanski's iconic horror film Rosemary's Baby and Stephen King's acclaimed novel The Tommyknockers.
