It's safe to say that most comic-book fans were a little disappointed when Tom Hardy vacated the role of Rick Flagg in David Ayer's upcoming Suicide Squad, with the part eventually going to RoboCop star Joel Kinnaman. Now, the actor has shed some light on exactly why he won't be living it up with the likes of Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and the Joker (Jared Leto). In an interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub, Hardy says another promising project is to blame.

How times have changed for The Magicians. A planned TV adaptation of Lev Grossman's urban fantasy novel, the project was originally housed at Fox but fell through after the failure of Terra Nova, prompting a disheartening blog post from Grossman. Now, though, Syfy has taken the series under its wing, green-lighting a 12-episode first season to begin production this July.
Maybe they should just turn over the Oscar now. The final trailer for Warner Bros.' upcoming disaster epic San Andreas is so jam-packed with jaw-dropping moments of the California cityscape collapsing in a maelstrom of death and destruction that it could easily serve as an awards reel for the army of visual effects artists involved. Outside of incredible shots like that giant wave riding toward the Golden Gate Bridge, though, it's unclear whether there will be much of a story on display. The veteran director never disappoints, and the material he's working with on the long-in-the-works project is simply too promising to believe he'll start now. Though Paramount has yet to officially unveil any stills or clips from the film, a wrap party and press conference in Taiwan, where Silence recently finishing shooting, has provided us with some grainy first images of star Andrew Garfield in costume.
Though the jury's still out on whether his next film, African drama Beasts of No Nation, will get a theatrical berth following the acrimonious reception theatre chains gave Netflix's acquisition of the buzzy pic, helmer Cary Fukunaga isn't slowing down for a second. He's lined up to direct an untitled drama for A24 that tells the true story of unusual father-son pair Joe and Jadin Bell.
Though neither The Da Vinci Code nor Angels and Demons wowed critics, Universal execs were certainly thrilled with both films' box office performance (the former was 2006's second highest-grossing film, while the latter was 2009's ninth), and so threequel Inferno is moving full steam ahead. Cameras are currently rolling on the film, with shooting having recently concluded in Venice, Italy, and director Ron Howard (who also directed the two previous installments) has been tweeting some snaps from the production.
