Jeremy Clymer is a freelance writer and stand-up comic who lives, works, and keeps it real in the Midwestern state of Michigan, USA. No, not that part of Michigan. The other part.
So what are your plans for 2017? Oh, you don't have any yet? Then you're not quite as on-the-ball as Universal, who just announced a pair of film releases for over three years from now. Those films are Despicable Me 3 and a new computer-animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Today was a big news day for FX. Not only did they confirm during their TCA press event that Justified will be wrapping up after its sixth season and announce a new TV pilot from screenwriter Charlie Kaufman starring Michael Cera and John Hawkes, but they also revealed that their recent development deal with Louis C.K. will be coming to fruition with a new pilot starring Zach Galifianakis.
Every now and then it's nice to take a break from Batman Vs. Superman casting rumors, so to show Marvel Studios some love here's a casting rumor about one of their movies: Doctor Strange. Latino Review is reporting that Marvel wants co cash in on popularity of The Lone Ranger (hahaha, sorry, that was cruel) and has met with Johnny Depp to discuss him possibly taking the lead role in a film about their main mystic.
Things were looking pretty bleak for the guys and girls of Girls at the end of last season. Hannah was having a full-on, ear-damaging meltdown. Marnie's on-again, off-again relationship with Charlie was decidedly off again. Jessa was nowhere to be found. Ray and Shoshanna were no longer an item. But then there was a light at the end of the tunnel as Adam arrived like a urine fetishist knight in tarnished armor, seemingly saving Hannah from what threatened to be some real, actual insanity.
Notorious political boss and racketeer Enoch Johnson died in a convalescent home at age 85. His fictional counterpart, Nucky Thompson, will be making his final exit after the fifth season of Boardwalk Empire, which was just announced by HBO as the series' last.
Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave was one of the very best films of 2013, having ranked on our own best-of list in the number four spot. Not everyone was into it, though. Among the dissenting voices was film critic Armond White, and he made that voice heard last night at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards during McQueen's acceptance speech for Best Director.
Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David co-created what is arguably the best sitcom of all time. Since then, they've gone their separate ways and have had their own projects of varying success, but nothing as game-changing as Seinfeld. They did reunite briefly for a Seinfeld-centric episode of David's Curb Your Enthusiasm, and then again later for an episode of Seinfeld's excellent web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, but otherwise their collaboration has been fairly minimal.
Shia LeBeouf dick pics. Nope, you won't find them on your favorite celebrity porn site. Rather, you would have to be a member of the Nymphomaniac production team to get that special privilege. In a promotional interview for the film with Zentropa Productions, LeBeouf revealed (no pun intended) that "the first request on the production end, not from Lars, was pictures of my penis."
Stuffing as many characters as possible into comic book films has been all the rage lately, but it looks like there are two characters who won't be making it into the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film: Aquaman and Martian Manhunter. This is according to the website Batman on Film, which claims inside knowledge on the movie.
Not since City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold has a movie title made legends seem as unattractive as the one in Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas. Yeah, Age of Uprising by itself is a pretty bad title. There have been a lot of uprisings. You can't really pin them on any particular age. Adding on that The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas subtitle sure doesn't make things any better, though.
