Despite recurring criticism for some areas of the Doctor Who fandom, current showrunner Chris Chibnall looks set to continue for at least another season, due to be released in 2021. One of the most striking features of season 12 of the show has been Chibnall turning away from the more standalone approach of season 11, and embracing characters from the history of the series. And now, he's revealed which existing characters from Doctor Who canon he'd like to bring back to play along Jodie Whittaker.
The recent restructuring of Viacom and CBS Corp. opened the door to more crossovers between the various parts of the Star Trek franchise and ViacomCBS CEO Bob Bakish has now added to our excitement for the future of the Trek universe by confirming the company's future plans for more movies and series.
Much loved and presumably still embarrassing to many people, the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special is famous for its bizarre creative decisions, Bea Arthur, Lumpy and much more. Despite its reputation, it's produced a surprising number of Star Wars tie-ins and in-jokes, including a reference to Life Day in the first episode of The Mandalorian. And now, Mark Hamill apparently wants justice for the special and has called on Donald Trump to deliver one of his (very casual) pardons to the variety show.
One of the more offbeat takes on the Batman legend in recent years, 2018's Batman Ninja transplanted the world of the Dark Knight into anime. Junpei Mizusaki took the directing reins in an animated film designed by Takashi Okazaki of Afro Samurai fame. It's now being reported that we'll be getting a live-action adaptation of the material, albeit not as a feature film, but as a stage play. While this may be disappointing for some wanting to see a niche Batman movie, a play is undoubtedly an intriguing prospect.
The legal troubles of the Friday the 13th franchise have been dragging on for a long time, and we're hoping that recent developments in the copyright battle over the series can be resolved this year. In the meantime, we've had various attempts at resurrecting Jason in different forms, including a video game and a long in-development television series. And now, we have some behind-the-scenes images of some of the different props planned for the show, courtesy of FridayThe13thFranchise.com.
It's fair to say that the brief look we received last week of Robert Pattinson's Batsuit has stirred up a lot of debate online, from those who are already unhappy with the direction Matt Reeves' The Batman is going in, to those that have already made some creative interpretations of the camera test. It's worth remembering here that the camera test was always going to be just an indication of what to expect from the final movie though, with early criticism drawing a disbelieving response from the film's composer Michael Giacchino.
A new version of The Hills Have Eyes is reportedly in development and Fede Álvarez is one of the targets to produce this new take on the Wes Craven movie.
One of the more enjoyable parts of Star Trek: Picard has been the tension between Picard and Raffi Musiker, his former first officer and reluctant member of the new crew he puts together for the series. We recently looked at how Picard and Raffi's relationship includes her calling him 'JL,' something that's apparently sparking debate among Star Trek fans, and producer Michael Chabon has now stepped in to shed some more light on the nickname, and what it tells us about Picard's character and recent history.
We're gradually getting more news about the new Candyman movie, which will be with us this June. While we don't have a trailer yet, we have recently learned that the hook-handed title character might be played by an unknown actor, and that Tony Todd's contribution may only be minimal. The new Candyman, which will both connect to the original 1992 movie, and forge its own path, is already bringing back lead character Helen Lyle, but now appears to be doubling up by reportedly having Vanessa A. Williams reprise her part from the first film.
The first season of Mike Flanagan's The Haunting of Hill House was one of the most effective horror series in memory, and one that rewards multiple viewings. A second season is now in its way, with the focus switching to The Haunting of Bly Manor, an adaptation of Henry James' The Turn of the Screw. Flanagan has already described the new season as even more terrifying than the first, and now series actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen has revealed that the director has "surpassed" himself with the new episodes.
