We've been enjoying Star Trek: Picard so far, with the series already shaping up to be both an intriguing character study and a successful new chapter in the history of the franchise. One of the most enjoyable parts of the CBS All Access show though, which is already renewed for a second season, has been Patrick Stewart's chemistry with the rest of the cast, and the deep affection between Jean-Luc Picard and his friends. And the most recent episode provided a new (and very cute) nickname for Picard - "JL."
Despite a decent critical response, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) has so far not enjoyed a good opening weekend at the box office. Indeed, the DCEU movie is on track to have the worst opening in the Warner Bros. franchise to date. All this seems unfair, considering that Birds of Prey is a pretty decent entry in the series, with one of its strong points being Ewan McGregor's Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask, as a villain. But what most people seem to forget is that Black Mask was actually teased as far back as Justice League.
We've been getting a lot of news recently about a reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is being put together by Legendary Pictures. Just a few days ago, we learnt that Ryan and Andy Tohill are taking the directing reins for the project, produced by Fede Álvarez of The Evil Dead remake fame. But it also now seems that Legendary have big plans for the reboot, and have a particular desire to use it to launch a whole new Leatherface franchise.
We've finally received an adaptation of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez's Locke & Key, courtesy of Netflix, and while nothing's officially set in stone yet, we're now hearing from our sources that the streaming site are happy enough with the initial order of ten episodes to greenlight a second and third season. Given Netflix's past record of investing in at least a few years of their original series, this shouldn't come as a particular surprise, but represents excellent news for fans of the comics and the recently released show.
We're fans of Robert Pattinson, mostly for his ability to move between roles in blockbusters and out-there performances in the likes of The Lighthouse. Pattinson is currently dealing with the stresses of being the new Batman, from scrutiny of his physique to having to field questions over previous comments that the Dark Knight isn't technically a superhero. With production underway for Matt Reeves' The Batman, Pattinson is probably resigned to more debates over his suitability for the role of Bruce Wayne. A new scientific study has provided some consolation, though, by claiming that Pattinson is the world's most handsome man.
We're pretty excited for the return of Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves this year in Bill & Ted Face the Music, wherein the titular pair have to deal with middle-age and a new quest through time to save humanity. We haven't seen too much of it just yet, but the latest teaser for the third movie in the series, available above, asks us to "Be excellent to each other" and features the iconic phone booth used by Bill and Ted to travel through time. And now, fans of Bill S. Preston Esq. and Ted Logan's exploits can take their love of the films a step further by purchasing a life-size recreation of the phone booth.
After a long wait, Star Trek: Picard is finally with us and we're already enjoying the continuation of Jean-Luc Picard's story. The series is breaking records for CBS All Access as well, even if some fans aren't too happy with what they've seen so far. And while Picard is (understandably) full of nods to Star Trek: The Next Generation, the series has also apparently thrown in a cheeky Easter Egg for Star Trek: Discovery fans, with eagle-eyed viewers spotting a reference in episode two of the new show.
Although we're a good few weeks out from the "Crisis on Infinite Earths" event, it seems that some fans can't quite let go of its consequences. Unfortunately, this misplaced (and somewhat baffling) anger has ended up being directed at LaMonica Garrett, the actor who played the Monitor and the Anti-Monitor in the Arrowverse. Garrett took to Twitter to share some of the unpleasant direct messages he's been getting on Instagram, and for the looks of it, he's being inexplicably blamed for Oliver Queen's death on the show.
The Infinity Saga boxset continues to provide a wealth of extra material for MCU fans, including a cut cameo for Captain Marvel in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Another recently released behind-the-scenes shot from Ultron has reinforced both the dedication of Scarlett Johansson to her role, and the expert VFX that allowed her to do so. The image in question, which you can catch below, shows Johansson's Black Widow sporting a baby bump while suited up alongside Captain America. Needless to say, fans were impressed by Johansson getting on with the filmmaking while pregnant.
