Whether you like it or not, Disney is bringing all your animated childhood favorites into live-action. Despite seeing varying degrees of success with their efforts, critically at least, these films make a ton of money at the box office for the studio. Their most recent stab at a live-action adaptation, Beauty and the Beast, is proof of that. As such, we can expect the trend to continue long into the future and one of the next outings for the Mouse House is none other than The Lion King.
A few hours ago, fanboys everywhere were sent into shock when it was announced that Joss Whedon had switched sides, signing on with DC to make Batgirl for them. It was news that came completely out of left field and probably took just about everyone by surprise. Don't get us wrong, we're thrilled that this is happening, and can't wait to see what Whedon comes up with - we just never expected the studio to greenlight a Batgirl film, let alone have The Avengers director behind the camera for it.
It's probably fair to say that no one expected Kingsman: The Secret Service to be as good as it was back when the film released in 2014. It was one of the biggest surprises of the year though, impressing critics and audiences alike and earning quite a bit of dough for Fox at the box office. So, it shouldn't shock anyone then that we've now got a sequel on the way in the form of Kingsman: The Golden Circle. And apparently, it's going to be "absolutely crazy."
Yesterday morning, Sony rolled out a brand new trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming, sending fans of the webhead into a frenzy. Packed with plenty of action, more than enough humor and some revealing new looks at Michael Keaton's menacing Vulture, it was a throughly enjoyable tease for the upcoming reboot, one that's left us giddy with anticipation for its arrival this July.
Andrew Garfield has signed on to star in and produce Black Lion, based on the memorable life and controversial death of war correspondent Carlos Mavroleon.
While Suicide Squad wasn't quite as bad as the critics made it out to be, few would say that it was a great film. Too many members of Task Force X were under-developed, the villain was pretty terrible and let's not even get started on the problems with Jared Leto's Joker. Still, none of that stopped the flick from grossing an impressive $745 million worldwide. We already knew that it was a fairly big money maker for the studio then, but with home entertainment and television revenue now factored in, Suicide Squad has become the DCEU's most profitable venture to date.
When Paramount Pictures released Terminator: Genisys, they had big plans for the franchise, and with the introduction of younger versions of fan-favourite characters, a new timeline, and the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger, all signs pointed to a bright future for the beloved series of sci-fi movies.
Spider-Man: Homecoming may be set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Sony still holds the rights to the wall-crawler. That means they can do whatever they like with his supporting cast, hence why we recently learned that Venom is moving forward and an adventure for Black Cat and Silver Sable is in the works.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with it being the first big-screen adventure starring the wall-crawler to take place there, it's understandable that the reboot will be packed full of references to the shared world (hence why Iron Man looks set to have a leading role in the film).
Sony Pictures spent a lot of money on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and while they expected a $1 billion hit, the sequel fell way below expectations thanks to middling reviews and a mostly negative response from fans. The studio hoped to launch Venom, Sinister Six, and at least two more follow-ups, but realizing they were handling the wall-crawler all wrong, Sony decided to team up with Marvel Studios for Spider-Man: Homecoming.
