So far, 2018 is not shaping up to be a good year for Warner Bros. The Flash is undergoing a complete page one rewrite which will likely push it into 2019, while The Batman...well, it's hard to say exactly what's going on with that movie right now, but it doesn't exactly seem very positive. As a result, the only DC Films entry coming next year for sure is Aquaman.
Following the brutally violent season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, the show's ratings started steadily dropping. It's hard to say what exactly turned viewers off, but it could have been any number of things. Rick's passive stance against Negan certainly didn't make for compelling viewing, while the standalone episodes continued being very hit and miss and far too many needless subplots were thrown our way.
Ahead of Star Wars: The Force Awakens' release, concept art and major plot details all found their way online. Star Wars: The Last Jedi hasn't suffered from anywhere near the same amount of leaks, and outside of a few set photos, we've seen literally nothing from the highly anticipated release.
The reveal that Captain America is secretly a Hydra agent was by far one of the most controversial comic book moments in recent memory, and while we later learned that his new villainous nature is a result of a Cosmic Cube changing his memory and past, seeing him plotting against his fellow heroes is still no easier to swallow. Now, everything will come to a head later this year in the Secret Empire event, a story which looks set to unite everyone from The Avengers to The Inhumans and X-Men against Captain America.
While Doctor Strange took us to some very, well, strange places, it was actually Ant-Man which first explored a very different side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When Scott Lang shrunk down in order to stop Yellowjacket, he was transported to the Quantum Realm, the same place it's thought Janet Van Dyne is trapped.
The Walking Dead returned this past Sunday with a wholly enjoyable outing that took a lot of steps in the right direction towards fixing what went wrong in the first half of season 7. It wasn't perfect, but between the new sense of optimism and hope, some fun character interactions, a tense scene on the highway and more of a reduced role for Negan, the episode showed much promise and we're certainly looking forward to what comes next.
By now, you've no doubt seen The LEGO Batman Movie, which means you'll know that the final act is packed full of iconic villains. We're not talking about the Caped Crusader's rogues gallery, either, because while the likes of the Joker and the Riddler do appear here, it's actually iconic baddies like Voldemort, Sauron and the Gremlins (seriously) who dominate this part of the film.
While Brie Larson is expected to play a role in Avengers: Infinity War, we still have no idea what to expect from Captain Marvel in Joe and Anthony Russo's film. We could see Carol Danvers' origin story or just an introduction to her as a full-fledged hero before her solo outing in a couple of years from now. Either way, fans are understandably anxious to see something of the beloved hero sooner rather than later and thankfully, it looks like they may get their wish.
You know, in hindsight, perhaps "intriguing" isn't the best word. In this first look at next week's episode of Supergirl, Mister Mxyzptlk arrives in National City to creepily ask for Kara Danvers' hand in marriage, something the Girl of Steel isn't too pleased with, especially after he conjures up a wedding dress for her.
The LEGO Batman Movie was the #1 movie in America this weekend with a little over $53 million at the box office, and while that figure didn't quite match early projections, it's still a very good start for the critically acclaimed animated spinoff. Now, Warner Bros. has released one of the film's best clips online to seemingly celebrate its success, and you can check it out up above.
