Marvel Studios movies appear to be pretty much critic-proof these days, though if there's one thing they're frequently called out on, it's the villains. Whiplash, Yellowjacket, Malekith, Crossbones; the list of bad guys who weren't handled well goes on and on, and in a new interview, head honcho Kevin Feige confirmed that the studio is well aware of the complaints.
The Clone Conspiracy doesn't wrap up until later this month, but Marvel has already released a preview of The Clone Conspiracy: Omega, a one-shot which promises to deal with the fallout of the event. For those of you unfamiliar with what Spider-Man has been up to, his clone Ben Reilly has returned from the dead with the intent of resurrecting all his fallen foes and loved ones.
In recent years, a conflict between Marvel and Fox led to the characters owned by the latter studio being put on the back-burner. It quickly became impossible for fans to find any merchandise featuring heroes and villains from the world of the X-Men and Fantastic Four, while their comic book adventures also began to get fewer and far between.
Following the release of a very cool Super Bowl TV spot last night, Fox has now unveiled five brand new images from James Mangold's Logan. While we do get a fresh look at Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Professor X (Patrick Stewart) and X-23 (Dafne Keen), these shots also give us our best look yet at two of the movie's villains who fans are very excited to see in action.
All eyes are on Warner Bros.' The LEGO Batman Movie this week to see if it can reach the same heights as its predecessor. Building its way up to a $469 million haul at the box office, Phil Lord and Chris Miller's 2014 original was a smashing success, presenting audiences with beautiful animation, an impressive voice cast and a thoughtful story that was both touching and funny in equal measure.
2016 was supposed to be the year that we finally got a good video game adaptation. Fans placed their hopes on both Warcraft and Assassin's Creed and unfortunately, neither of them impressed. While each film had a few redeeming qualities, they didn't do very much for critics or general audiences and so, we're still sitting here waiting patiently for someone to get it right. Thankfully, it looks like that wait may come to an end quite soon.
Earlier this evening, Marvel unveiled the extended Super Bowl TV spot for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and now a new batch of images have been released to go along with it. While a few are essentially screengrabs from the exciting preview, they do show off a fresh look at the heroes and, perhaps more interesting, one of the sequel's villains.
As expected, 20th Century Fox took the chance to show off James Mangold's Logan during tonight's Super Bowl, giving us yet another look at the threequel. It follows hot on the heels of the promo the studio dropped earlier for A Cure for Wellness and it's equally as exciting, teasing what looks to be an electrifying final outing for Hugh Jackman as the titular hero.
One could argue that we still really haven't had a great portrayal of Catwoman on the big screen. Halle Berry's time with the iconic character is best forgotten, and while Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaway both did some solid work, each of their performances had issues. Still, DC isn't giving up on Selina Kyle and will attempt, once again, to bring her to life in Gotham City Sirens.
Awards season is really starting to heat up now with the Oscars on the horizon. They'll take place on February 26th and a clear frontrunner is beginning to emerge in the form of La La Land. The film has been cleaning up for a while now and last night, it snagged another big prize, as director Damien Chazelle took home the top honor (Best Feature Film) at the Director's Guild of America Awards.
