By far one of the coolest (and most intriguing) moments in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was when we paid a visit to Darth Vader's home on Mustafar. Those of you who haven't wiped the prequels from your minds will recall that that's where Anakin Skywalker was defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi, and many fans have since wondered why the Sith Lord would want to return there.
Shazam isn't set to be released until 2019, which means we have a very long wait until we get our first official look at anything from the film. After all, Warner Bros. is hard at work trying to make the likes of The Flash and Aquaman happen right now, so it's going to be quite some time before they even find a writer or director for this entry into the DC Extended Universe.
After the bastardized version of the character that appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the Merc with a Mouth finally got redemption with last year's Deadpool. The film was a major gamble on behalf of all involved, but it turned out to be a resounding success, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie to date and earning its place on numerous best of 2016 lists.
Given the events of the mid-credits scene in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange, it wasn't much of a stretch to think that the Sorcerer Supreme might have a role in Thor: Ragnarok. That's because it featured the God of Thunder stopping by the Sanctum Sanctorum to ask Strange for some help. Plus, with how popular Cumberbatch has proven to be in the role, we imagine Marvel would want to use him as much as they can going forward, as he'll eventually join the Avengers in time for Infinity War.
Starting 2017 off on the right note, Warner Bros. has released a brief new promo for The LEGO Batman Movie, which features the Caped Crusader wishing us all a "Happy New Year." Actually, at first we get Bruce Wayne on screen, but after a quick second he changes into his iconic costume and adds, "from Batman." Watching the hero deliver his message is Robin, who shouts out "oh my gosh" before the promo ends.
The first trailer for Logan made it clear that the movie will be very different to any other comic book adaptation on the way in 2017, and that makes it very exciting. Fox could have easily followed The Wolverine with a big budget final adventure for the hero similar to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but instead, director James Mangold is heading down an R-Rated route.
Earlier this year, we learned that Disney XD had decided to cancel the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series in order to focus on a new Spider-Man show which would be headed up by the team of story editor Kevin Shinick (Robot Chicken) and supervising director Philip Pignotti (Avengers Assemble).
In the mid-credits scene of Captain America: Civil War, we got our first look at Black Panther's home nation of Wakanda. However, the scenes were shot inside a pretty futuristic building and we only got a glimpse of the outside when a massive panther statue was spotted hidden within the mist.
With the series now over, it's fair to say that Civil War II was not a resounding success. After suffering numerous delays and receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews from fans and critics alike, the fact that the story has finally wrapped up came as a blessed relief to many, though it's arguably left the Marvel Universe in a pretty interesting place.
Over Christmas, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson shared a photograph which appeared to show him plotting with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Henry Cavill about the future of the DC Films Universe. As one of the most successful actors in Hollywood, Johnson is given a fair bit of creative input, so that also being the case with Shazam should come as no surprise.
