It has been exceedingly more convenient for moviegoers to skip the trip to their local cinema and enjoy their movies at home, as of late. The advent of Netflix and other on video demand companies, entertainment systems with technology of the highest order, as well as the often ridiculous pricing of tickets have all been deciding factors in the number of theater attendees. In a desperate response to this, the Zombie Apocalypse flick World War Z will attempt to lure viewers to the screens by employing "Megatickets."
We know Terminator 5 has been picked up by Paramount Pictures, along with Megan Ellison and her brother David. However, the Ellisons only have claim over the rights until the year 2019. What happens to the franchise after that? The rights to The Terminator franchise will be regained by James Cameron, director of the '84 original.
Two time BAFTA winner Gary Oldman hopes to add Ralph Fiennes and Benedict Cumberbatch to his second directorial effort, Flying Horse. Oldman has collaborated with both actors in the past as he co-starred with Cumberbatch in the intriguing but overly complex drama Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (for which Oldman was a Best Actor nominee at the Oscars) and with Fiennes in the Harry Potter series.
Courteney Cox will be go behind the camera and make her feature directorial debut with the independent drama Hello I Must Be Going. Cox currently stars in the TBS television series Cougar Town and of course, is most recognizable as Monica Geller from Friends.
Though many wish it would, the found footage genre shows no sign of dying out anytime soon as this week, the holiday themed 12/24, written by Matt Lieberman, has been acquired by 1492 Pictures, established by Chris Columbus. Among the titles 1492 has produced in the past are Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and the Fantastic Four films.
Emma Watson, best remembered for the hugely successful Harry Potter franchise, will be starring in the movie adaptation of Queen of the Tearling. Since the conclusion of her role as Hermione Granger, Watson has opted for appearing in smaller movies such as My Week with Marilyn and The Bling Ring, both of which featured great performances from her. She was also radiant in yet another book-to-screen adaptation, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and will be seen in Darren Aronofsky's Noah in March of 2014. The actress has definitely been keeping busy.
After originally turning down the offer, Sandra Bullock is once again in early talks to appear in the remake of the beloved musical Annie. Bullock was approached to play Miss Hannigan, the drunken manager of the orphanage. In the '82 original the role was filled by Carol Burnett.
Some notable progress has been made with regards to the fifth installment in the Terminator franchise, which is currently titled Terminator 5. After a stretch of inactivity on the project, Paramount Pictures is currently in negotiations that are nearing an end to distribute the latest in the world renowned series. The details in the movie's foundation hinted at such a development.
