Ryan Reynolds didn't exactly have an easy time getting into the superhero business. Not that it was his fault, mind you, but the actor had two massive misfires with both his role as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and then as the titular hero in Green Lantern. Thankfully, redemption finally came when the Merc with a Mouth got his own solo outing, which turned out to be one of 2016's very best films.
As you no doubt know by now, Marvel will be using Ego the Living Planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and have even brought in Kurt Russell to play the character. However, at one point, James Gunn may have had to choose a different father for Star-Lord, as the rights to Ego actually belonged to Fox.
It's been a very big week for all things Ghost in the Shell, and the hype train doesn't look to be slowing down any time soon. After an impressive first trailer, which gave us a ton of new information on the film, and a look at the opening scene which pays homage to the original, fans have certainly had a lot to chew over. The general opinion the adaptation seem to be pretty good so far, and with this latest bit of news, it'll no doubt get even better.
It seems that the marketing machine for Kong: Skull Island is starting to roar to life now that the film is only about 4 months away. Earlier this week, we got our first proper look at the mighty beast, who's said to stand 100ft tall, while the past few days also saw the release of a new international trailer - though it only featured recycled footage.
Suicide Squad may have released back in August, but it's certainly not looking to leave the public sphere any time soon. After finishing its box office run this week at an impressive $745.5 million, it's now time to look forward to the film's Extended Cut, which hits Digital HD this Tuesday and Blu-ray on December 13th.
Warner Bros. has big plans for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and understandably so. As a spinoff of one of the biggest franchises of all-time, it's no secret that the studio is hoping for another cash cow that can generate significant profits for them long into the future. And with five films already planned for the series, and casting already underway for the sequel, it's safe to say that us Muggles are going to be bombarded with all things magic and wizardry for many years to come.
Last we'd heard about The Croods 2, DreamWorks Animation had brought in several new writers to re-work the script, and had nabbed Leslie Mann and Kat Dennings for supporting roles. Everything seemed set for the sequel to release in November of next year, until today that is, as Deadline is reporting that the studio has now pulled the plug on the project.
Jeremy Renner's a busy guy, and understandably so. With roles in both The Avengers and Mission: Impossible franchises, he probably doesn't have much time to relax, or even make non-blockbusters. He still does squeeze a few in here and there, like the rather excellent Kill the Messenger, but it's clear that his schedule is pretty packed.
The idea of a Han Solo origin movie initially didn't sit very well with Star Wars fans, many of whom felt there simply wasn't an actor out there that could live up to Harrison Ford's iconic take on the character. But, when talented Hail, Caesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich landed the highly coveted role, a lot of people softened their stance a little.
Say what you want about David Ayer's Suicide Squad, but it was certainly no slouch at the box office. The film has now finished its run and we're being told it made $745.5 million for Warner Bros., and that's without China, as it didn't open there. If it had, it's estimated it would have brought in another $75 million or so, as Batman V Superman did roughly $100 million in that territory.
