'Tis the season of television renewals and cancellations. A number of series, both old and new, are finding themselves in precarious positions as they wait patiently to discover their fate. Just yesterday, we learned that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had earned a fifth season while NBC's Powerless got the axe. That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of all the movement going on in the industry this week, either, as countless shows have either been given a new lease on life or sent off to the gallows.
With the amount of experience and impressive credits Charlie Hunnam's got under his belt, you'd think that the actor would be A-list material by now. Unfortunately, though, he isn't there quite yet. Not for a lack of trying, mind you. After seven long seasons on FX's Sons of Anarchy, Hunnam is now making a big push into the world of film. He did have some notable roles in the past (Pacific Rim, Crimson Peak), but with his television commitments now behind him, he's free to take on a lot more big screen projects.
Though some people may be unaware, there's an awards ceremony held every year to honor the true heroes behind our favorite films: the marketing team. That's right, the Golden Trailer Awards hand out statues to those who work tirelessly putting together trailers, commercials and posters for hundreds of releases each and every year. And not just in film, but video games and TV, too. It's an incredibly comprehensive ceremony as well, with awards for a whopping 116 categories. Yes, 116 - though not all of those are given out on stage.
Now that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is out in the wild, and smashing through one box office record after another, it's time to turn our attention to the next big Marvel release coming down the pipeline. That'd be Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming, which marks the wall-crawler's first solo outing in the MCU and after his superb debut in Captain America: Civil War, expectations for the film are understandably high.
Though it remains consistently great television, there's no denying that The Walking Dead does have a tendency to fall into a very familiar pattern of going long stretches without anything particularly eventful happening. Of course, there's nothing wrong with character-focused drama (that is the basis of the show, after all), but when fans have been promised "all-out war" and all they're given is a short (though admittedly, exciting) skirmish in the season 7 finale, there were always going to be disappointments.
Fox's X-Men cinematic universe is really starting to come together now, and it's very exciting to watch. There are a whole host of projects in various stages of development, and this week, we got some substantial updates on two of them. First, we learned that the studio is busy casting three X-Force members, who are set to cameo in Deadpool 2. Following that, earlier today The Hollywood Reporter finally gave us some confirmation on a rumor that's been floating around for a while now.
It was only a few days ago that FX announced The Strain would be returning for its fourth, and final, season on July 16th. Now that the date is out in the open, though, it's time for the marketing blitz to begin, and it all kicks off with this newly released promo, which is appropriately titled "Push." Though it doesn't give us much in the way of footage, the quick tease it does deliver should be enough to send chills down the spines of fans everywhere.
Earlier this week, Hellboy fans were taken by surprise when it was announced that The Descent director Neil Marshall would be getting behind the camera for a reboot of the property, with Stranger Things star David Harbour taking on the titular role. We say it was a surprise because after Guillermo del Toro officially put those Hellboy 3 rumors to bed, we assumed that the character was done with the silver screen. As it turns out, however, that couldn't be further from the truth and we will indeed be seeing him again.
We're now just 10 days away from the highly anticipated third season of David Lynch's bizarrely brilliant Twin Peaks, which last graced our TV screens over 20 years ago. So far, most of the teasers have been very vague, focusing on the atmospheric score and glimpses of of the titular town, but Showtime recently debuted some actual footage from the show, and now they've given us even more with this latest trailer.
Fox's X-Men cinematic universe is slowly but surely starting to come together. After learning that the studio is in the process of casting a few X-Force members to cameo in Deadpool 2, The Hollywood Reporter now brings word that New Mutants has begun to recruit some talent to get in front of the camera.
