I'm surprised my ticket to Endless Love didn't come with a complimentary pint of Häagen-Dazs and a bottle of red wine - usual supplements to such gratuitous emotional pornography.
Well, well, well, look who's back for more - or if you're a first timer, welcome to I'd Rather Be At The Movies, We Got This Covered's film podcast darling. Entering our second week of official podding, Justine and I are starting to get the hang of this whole "talk about movies" gig, but we'll accept any feedback from you guys on how to become the best podcasters in the multiverse. Oh, you guys all know my co-host Justine Browning, right? New York City press circuit mainstay, and WGTC's red carpet correspondent? Sorry newbies, don't want to leave you uninformed.
For far too long we've been teased with a live-action Akira movie that's seen numerous creators come and go, but back in August we learned that writer/director Jaume Collet-Serra ultimately "won" the job with a vision that impressed studio heads the most. Since then, we've heard nothing - mainly because Jaume has been busy with films like Non-Stop and Run All Night.
It's not every day that we recommend you go out and discover what Russian cinema has to offer, but when the first big-budget Russian movie produced with 3D technologies and released in IMAX format becomes the highest-grossing Russian movie of all time, maybe it's time to take note. Stalingrad, from director Fedor Bondarchuk, is gearing up for its exclusive engagement in IMAX 3D theaters nationwide when it opens February 28th, and we've got our first look at the World War II action thanks to an action-packed trailer.
If you haven't noticed yet, Remy and I are dreamers. It's not that we can't be excited about what we already have, but when the creative juices start flowing, it's much easier to write about what might await. We've mixed and matched our favorite horror films, talked about what directors we'd love to see working on an anthology film, we've predicted outcomes - it's all about having fun. Lucky for us, the horror genre gives plenty of opportunities for such fun, and it also makes us wonder - why do some directors stay completely away from horror? Because it tends to become vile, disgusting, exploitative, and sometimes repulsive? Probably - but what if some virgin directors leapt into the blood-filled deep end of the horror pool?
Being the horror-loving night owl that I am, I've been waiting for South By Southwest (SXSW) to announce their Midnighter lineup since day one. Sure, the true feature roster has plenty of titles worth getting excited over, whether you're a Veronica Mars fan or just can't wait to see Zac Efron play a fratty party-addict in Neighbors, but since I'll probably be catching up on my sleep during those releases, the Midnighters are my bread and butter - and now I finally know what to expect.
The day is finally here! We've been promising you for weeks now that a film podcast would officially be starting once again to fill the WGTC Radio void, and that podcast is I'd Rather Be At The Movies. Joined by my co-host Justine Browning, each week we'll be dishing out the latest in industry news, the newest big movie releases, those diamond-in-the-rough Blu-Ray arrivals and of course, some random bantering that you'll obviously grow to love - LOVE US, DAMMIT!
