With twelve movies already recommended for your Halloween viewing this season, it's time we continue our quest to fill our heads with enough nightmare fodder to haunt our dreams for the next five decades or so. We've already tackled the "Zombie" subgenre and "Slasher" subgenre, so now it's time to get all spooky on ya. This week we're going with Netflix's "Supernatural" subgenre, which we learned is a broad generalization after scouring the selections. It's not all ghosts and paranormal haunting stories, but instead a wide variety of films involving dark powers - whatever, we're not complaining!

Carrie Review

In a year where I've been surprised by numerous horror remakes and reboots, director Kimberly Peirce is the next director tasked with revitalizing a classic tale, and in Peirce's specific case, a Stephen King story Brian De Palma already brilliantly adapted to screen (with a TV version starring Angela Bettis floating around as well). Kimberly wasn't worried about remaking De Palma's story though, as her focus was to bring a fresh new vision to King's heralded source material - Carrie was to be a rivaling, isolated film.

Chucky: The Complete Collection Limited Edition Blu-Ray Review

2013 - the year of Chucky. Not only did Charles Lee Ray terrorize viewers in a brand new, well received sequel, Don Mancini's Curse Of Chucky, but celebrating his 25 years of slaughtering, harassing, and insulting, Universal has released Chucky: The Complete Collection limited edition Blu-Ray/DVD. Sure, you could always just buy Curse Of Chucky on Blu-Ray separately, but for fans of the series, Universal has packaged all six Chucky films, including Mancini's latest curse, in one convenient collection. Hell, if you don't own any of them and are intrigued by Curse of Chucky, might as well buy them all together and have a proper marathon - which might have been what I did.

The Exorcist 40th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray Review

The Exorcist - William Friedkin’s religious horror juggernaut that wrote the book on exorcism horror, with no other genre specific film coming close to achieving the critical accolades this spectacularly horrifying film did back in 1973. Yes, a film without the technological advances of today is still making most horror films look like child's play, both in the effects department, and concerning true, pants-wetting horror. Friedkin and writer William Peter Blatty created a timeless classic that has been terrifying audiences for years, as I still couldn't help but leave a light on while re-watching this magnificent special edition Blu-Ray re-release.

Cassadaga Review

Yup, I don't think I'll be moving to Cassadaga any time soon thanks to Anthony DiBlasi's creepy ghost story about seances, serial killers, and going batshit insane. Nope, don't need any psychics connecting me to dead relatives, only to have a vengeful spirit latch itself onto me. Talk about putting a cramp on your social life, am I right? Hey, Matt, want to go out for drinks tomorrow night? Sure, but I'll probably be haunted by a ghost at some point, so when I start screaming bloody murder and hearing voices in my head, just ignore me, I'll snap out of it in like thirty minutes. Just one of the side effects of summoning lost souls, you know the drill bros.

Mob City Cast Promotes Frank Darabont’s New Gangster Series [New York Comic Con 2013]

Frank Darabont has already proven himself to be an incredible filmmaker, with such critically acclaimed titles as The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, earning respect all throughout Hollywood. Feeling ambitious, Frank recently threw his hat back in the television ring with a little show called The Walking Dead, which he helped get off the ground. After leaving the show and not looking back, Frank's now ready to unveil his new television project, Mob City, which will debut December 4th, 2013 on TNT.

Kill Your Darlings Review

Kill Your Darlings makes me want to be a better writer. Sure, John Krokidas' historical retelling of the "Beat Generation" visionaries who attempted to turn society upside down is a fantastic watch that brings to life real literary geniuses like Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac, but I'll admit the whole time I couldn't help but be a tad jealous. These mad scientists of the written word could conjure up beautiful workings at the drop of a dime, but they also played by their own rules. These guys were the French Revolutionaries of literature, springing a movement to banish the constraints of rhyme and meter, and hot damn that looked fun. Their intellect intoxicating and their methods unorthodox, these hipster wordsmiths made me dream of being on their other-worldly level, pissing off the dinosaurs one word at a time. These men are idols, rewriting the book and becoming incredibly successful through passion and individuality, like poetic rockstars. Their story is legendary, and our characters provide scene after scene of pure cinematic bliss. John Krokidas, thank you for transporting me back to a swinging New York City full of magic, mystery, and murder.

Roundtable Interview With Michael Imperioli On Oldboy [New York Comic Con 2013]

Spike Lee and Michael Imperioli have worked together on countless films, so it's no surprise Michael will be showing up in Lee's upcoming Oldboy remake as Josh Brolin's barkeep friend. From what we were shown, Imperioli's character Chucky is more of a support line for Brolin's character, being there to help him out when all seems dark.

12 Years A Slave Review

Epps, who most will peg as a hateful monster, basks in the glory of owning human lives, treating slaves as nothing but property with which he can do anything he pleases. Ford, on the other hand, listens to Solomon and respects his workers, showing a distinct side of compassion other slave owners ignored. Ford treated Solomon as a person, rewarding him for ingenuity and good behavior, while Epps worked his slaves to the bone, offering no relief or acknowledgement of basic human rights. Epps toyed with the slaves and hid behind scripture sayings while beating female workers within an inch or their lives. For a man like Ford, you can argue he's just a victim of circumstance, not letting slave ownership influence his personal code, but Epps is a far different story. Epps is the slave owner movies exploit as maniacs, being somewhat of a real life Calvin Candy, showing the nasty, dark, unsettling type of owner who turned slavery from a social injustice to an all out horrific atrocity.
