Modern Family Leads Critics’ Choice Television Award Nominees

The Broadcast Television Journalists Association announced the nominees this morning for the inaugural Critics' Choice Television Awards with Modern Family leading the pack. The ABC comedy series garnered six nominations, including acting nods for Ty Burrell, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Julie Bowen and Sofia Vergara. The nominees included genre shows often overlooked by the Emmys. Critically acclaimed sci-fi show Fringe received a nod for best drama series and actors Anna Torv and John Noble were acknowledged for their work on the show.

SyFy In Talks To Bring Back The Event As Miniseries

Good news for fans of NBC’s canceled thriller The Event. Word is SyFy is considering bringing the show back as a miniseries. The Event was canceled by NBC in May after averaging just 7.13 million viewers and a 2.4 rating. The network hoped the high concept science fiction show would draw fans looking to fill the void left by Lost, but the audience was never what NBC needed and ratings dropped further after it was replaced with The Cape during the winter.

Is Patrick Dempsey Leaving Grey’s Anatomy?

The upcoming eighth season of Grey’s Anatomy will likely be the last for Patrick Dempsey, who plays Dr. Derek Shepherd. “It’s gonna be my last,” Dempsey said in the latest issue of Italian Vanity Fair. “I do not know what’s going to happen to the other characters, but for me it’s done.” Dempsey’s rep released a statement earlier today saying that the actor was referring to his contract expiring and plans for the future are still being discussed.

Nicole Scherzinger To Replace Cheryl Cole On X Factor

Former UK X Factor judge Cheryl Cole is being replaced by ex-Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger on the US version of the show, reports TMZ. Scherzinger will join Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and L.A. Reid at the judges table when the show debuts on Fox in the fall. It's not clear why Cole is being replaced, but producers are reportedly worried her thick accent would make it hard for American audiences to understand.

After a long wait fans of The CW’s One Tree Hill and Nikita can breathe a sigh of relief. The network has given freshman Nikita a full season order and a 13-episode ninth season to the veteran One Tree Hill, which will premiere at midseason.

Lisa Edelstein Leaves House

Lisa Edelstein will not return for the eighth season of FOX’s House. Edelstein, who plays Dr. Lisa Cuddy, has been with the show from the beginning and has become the love interest for Hugh Laurie’s Dr. House. “After much consideration, I am moving onward with a combination of disappointment at leaving behind a character I have loved playing for seven years and excitement of the new opportunities in acting and producing that lie ahead,” Edelstein said in a statement.

FOX Announces Fall Schedule

Fox unveiled its new fall schedule today and revealed that Alcatraz and The Finder have been pushed to midseason. Dinosaur drama Terra Nova will kick off the fall season Mondays at 8/7c. Fox president Kevin Reilly put to rest rumors that the show would not be ready until 2012 due to post-production hiccups.
