‘I like myself more now’: Sarah Michelle Gellar reveals her secret battle with one devastating truth

"I'm proud of what I've done. I'm proud of who I am."

Sarah Michelle Gellar recently opened up about her journey with aging, sharing that she feels more confident and content with herself now than ever before. According to People Magazine, the actress expressed a genuine pride in her life’s path and the person she has become.

Gellar revealed that she’s “been so fortunate that I’ve never been trapped in one role at one age. I don’t know how I got that lucky, but I’m proud of what I’ve done. I’m proud of who I am.” She even admits to feeling better about herself these days. “I look at pictures of when I was younger and I’m like, ‘I think I look better now. I like myself more now.'”

However, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer alum wasn’t always so accepting of getting older. She recalled a time when changes in her appearance sometimes affected her. “There was a time in my life when it did affect me sometimes, and I’m like, ‘Great, I don’t look like that anymore.’ And then you get to this place where you’re like, ‘Yeah, I don’t want to look. I shouldn’t look like that anymore.'”

I guess a lot of us can relate to the feeling of being uncomfortable in our bodies

This newfound confidence is also a big reason behind her latest partnership with Olay. Gellar, who previously appeared in the brand’s Super Bowl commercial in 2019, was enthusiastic about another chance to show her true self. “This is me,” she stated. “This is my skin. I haven’t had a facelift. I’m not saying one day I won’t. I don’t judge anyone, but this is me. I can’t lie about my age because everybody knows my age!”

Gellar admitted that she is very loyal to her skin routine and the brands she uses, and has also found a new appreciation for exercise. “Everyone says as you get older, you have to start lifting,” she explained. “I always was afraid of lifting weights because I’m an actor and if you look like the Terminator, it’s hard to do a period piece. But you realize as you get older, you really do.” She’s found trainers who tailor to her preferences to keep her workouts engaging and fresh.

The actress is gearing up for a pretty packed year. While Buffy had already received a successor in the form of an Audible series, the reboot she was developing was unexpectedly canceled, but she still has a ton on her plate. Gellar will be a judge on Netflix’s Star Search, and she’s also returning to her horror roots in the horror-comedy sequel, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.

“This is where I want to be work-wise,” Gellar shared. Beyond her career, she emphasized her strong family life with husband Freddie Prinze Jr., calling this “the best time of my life.” She’s really making an effort to appreciate every moment, advising everyone to “put the phone down” and enjoy life as it happens. It sounds like she’s living her best life, and that’s truly inspiring.
