Jonathan Bailey, who will be playing Fiyero in the upcoming Wicked film, was spotted recently accompanying his co-star Ariana Grande to Wimbledon. Amidst Grande’s divorce rumors, many fans are wondering whether Bailey is the new man in Ariana’s life.
Despite the fact that the star frequently plays straight characters, he’s openly gay, so their outing was purely a platonic one.
He is best known for his role at Anthony on Bridgerton, a character that received rave reviews after Season 2. Though the Netflix series is what many fans recognize him from, Bailey has been performing for years on both stage and screen. He appeared on the series Broadchurch and Chewing Gum. He also received Best Supporting Actor in a Musical at the Laurence Olivier Awards in 2019 for his performance in Company.
He opened up with GQ about keeping his sexuality hidden when auditioning for leading roles. He learned early in his career that, “in order to be happy [he] needed to be straight.” Though the 35-year-old felt pressure to keep his sexuality hidden at the beginning of his career, but eventually changed his mentality. “I’d much prefer to hold my boyfriend’s hand in public or be able to put my own face picture on Tinder and not be so concerned about that than get a part,” he said to GQ.
The actor has yet to go public with his dating life. However, he did appear in Variety’s 2022 Power of Pride list, naming him one of the most influential queer artists.
His influence is only growing, and fans are excited to see what he does next. With the Writers’ and Actors’ strike, it’s unclear when fans will get to see his likely showstopping performance in Wicked, but they may just catch a glimpse of him in Bridgerton again this December.
