Ever since their split, the narrative of Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s separation has always skewed towards painting The Flash actor as the perpetrator and the “On The Floor” singer as the one who got her heart broken by the same man she dared to love again. But evidently, she contributed in her own way to their relationship’s demise for a second time – this time, by deliberately exposing it to a “landmine” that Affleck has always run away from his whole life.
While the couple was still married and giving the world hope that love finds its way back, Affleck shared his widely known dislike of paparazzi and his major aversion to putting his personal life on social media. But JLo never had such qualms. She is social media savvy, posting on Instagram like the pro she is, and getting married to Affleck didn’t change it.
“My wife’s a genius at that,” he shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know if there’s anybody who understands Instagram better than her.”
But he still sees these actions, this desire to put out your life in the open for others to see and judge, as a danger that should be avoided since his past “really painful experience” made him “guarded.”
Back in 2021, during his appearance on The Howard Stern Show, he didn’t hold back while discussing his struggles with alcoholism. He shared that he felt “trapped” in his marriage with Jennifer Garner, and the feeling further exacerbated his addiction. Soon after, media outlets took out his statements from a two-hour interview and portrayed them as if he were blaming his ex-wife for his drinking. He clarified his statements later, stressing that he would never say something like that about Garner. But the damage was done, and it scarred him for life since allowing himself to be “really vulnerable” blew up on his face.
Though Affleck and Lopez have never really addressed the root cause of what brought about the end of Bennifer 2.0, sources and insiders have often commented how it was the singer’s flashy and overly publicized life (and how okay she was with it) that drove the actor away. Despite his obvious abhorrence of interviews and sharing his personal life, Affleck did open up about his divorce from Lopez, claiming that contrary to the wide-ranging speculations, it was all very drama-free, that “there’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue.”
