Latest Fantasy News: Surprising no one, racists lash out at Yara Shahidi’s Tinker Bell as the ‘Warrior Nun’ show runner takes on Elon Musk

Simon Barry is pushing back against Twitter's upcoming changes.

The show runner behind Netflix’s tragically-canceled Warrior Nun has been showing off his spine for months now, and he’s once again proving his grit, this time as he faces down Elon Musk.

Simon Barry has been an adamant supporter of his Halo bearers and their efforts to see Warrior Nun return for months now. He took a brief break from the campaign to take a shot at Elon Musk’s upcoming Twitter change, which will see many of its verified users lose their blue check mark. Barry joins a majority of Twitter users in being entirely unimpressed with the plan.

When Twitter potentially shoots itself in the foot with its upcoming changes, we’ll be far too busy enjoying Honor Among Thieves to notice. The fantasy film looks like an absolute delight, introducing a range of characters from across fan-favorite classes and sending them off on just the epic adventure Dungeons & Dragons fans have been wanting. Some official merchandise will be available for a select number of viewers, and we’re desperately hoping to be among them.

Early reactions to Honor Among Thieves are almost universally positive, but the same cannot be said for Peter Pan and Wendy. The upcoming take on Peter Pan looks delightful, but its decision to cast Yara Shahidi as fan-favorite Tinker Bell quickly led to predictable racist backlash. Who knew blonde hair was such a vital requirement?

Yara Shahidi’s Tinker Bell prompts exhaustingly predictable backlash

Surprising absolutely no one, the racists were quick to respond to the official poster for Yara Shahidi’s Tinker Bell. While there was certainly plenty of support for the actress among Twitter reactions to the early image, disgruntled bigots made sure their voices were heard too. They complained about the character’s hair color, of all things, and Disney’s “woke” casting, despite the fact that no actual descriptions of Tinker Bell or Peter exist in the original story. They’ll find anything to complain about, of course, but you’d think they might be somewhat less predictable from time to time.

Warrior Nun’s Simon Barry pushed back against Elon Musk’s upcoming Twitter change and still found time to plug the #SaveWarriorNun campaign. Barry retweeted a message from Karl Urban explaining that he’ll soon lose verification rather than pay the required fee, and cautioning followers against online scams. Barry echoed the sentiment with a straightforward “Same,” before sneaking in a quick “#SaveWarriorNun” to polish things off.

That’s right, there’s an official popcorn companion to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, but it’ll almost certainly sell out fast. A range of delightful merchandise will accompany the DnD flick’s impending release, allowing fans to snatch up one of several shirts, goblets, and even a functioning d20 that doubles as a popcorn bucket.
