Prince William forms unexpected alliance with royal who was formerly close with Harry and Meghan

Prince William may not be interested in mending his relationship with Prince Harry, but he’s still looking to make some royal alliances. It turns out the future King’s newest ally was formerly quite close with Harry and Meghan.

The Prince of Wales has reportedly formed an alliance with Princess Eugenie over their shared passion for protecting the environment. According to Hello! Magazine the two cousins are focused on marine conservation and it seems their shared passion has prompted them to form an alliance.

The two royals and their quest for the environment

Princess Eugenie, who is the daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, has always been incredibly vocal when it comes to protecting the oceans. In a recent post to Instagram she reiterated the importance of the ocean, the caption reads, “The ocean is the greatest wonder of the world. Celebrating @unworldoceansday today and everyday.”

As for Prince William, he has been heavily involved in all kinds of environmental projects, just like his father, King Charles. The Prince has launched significant projects such as the Earthshot Prize, an annual awards ceremony which celebrates contributions towards environmentalism. Conservation is never far from William’s mind, most recently the Prince gave a speech on the importance of the ocean at the Blue Economy and Finance Forum while he was in Monaco.

William and Eugenie’s alliance comes amid shifts in the royal family

Until recently, Eugenie had been pretty close friends with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle but reports indicate that the relationship between the Princess and the Sussex family has somewhat fizzled out as of late. Speaking to The Sun, a royal source claimed that Harry and Meghan may have had a slight falling out with Eugenie.

“Eugenie has been supportive of Harry and Meghan for years and was right there at the beginning of their relationship — but it has now soured.”

The friendship reportedly faltered after Eugenie was photographed with Piers Morgan, a figure who Meghan has notoriously clashed with quite spectacularly in the past.

Princess Eugenie has shown a great deal of loyalty to Harry and Meghan despite everything. It looked like they would also be seeing a lot more of each other after it was revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would be purchasing a property in Portugal. Her family are thought to be Harry and Meghan’s final link to the rest of the royal family so if they do grow distant then the Sussexes will be well and truly cut off from the rest of the family. 

With William and Eugenie forming an alliance it seems like Harry and his family have been pushed out of the picture. The future King has shown no interest in reconciling with his brother and this new coalition with Eugenie suggests the rest of the royal family may feel a similar way.
