Stephen King reiterates that you shouldn’t believe everything you see on Wikipedia

Because if you read it on the internet, it has to be true.

Given the chance to ask any question to a cultural icon, what would it be? Given that there are DMs and a celebrity can easily be tagged in a tweet, Stephen King gets many, many questions, and he’s one of the few who actually answers them. Recently, the famed author was asked if he is a deist, and his answer is not only humorous but epic.

The famous author known for his horror has a beautiful catalog of work that began in 1967 when he sold his first short story, “The Glass Floor,” to Startling Mystery Stories. He continued to sell short stories until the fourth novel he ever wrote, Carrie, was accepted for publishing by Doubleday in 1973. Thus began a long, distinguished career that includes classics like ‘Salem’s Lot, Stand by Me, The Dark Tower books, Cujo, Firestarter, The Green Mile, and It. Recently, he’s built a social media following that embraces his frank and oftentimes hilarious takes on mainstream culture.

A deist? Stephen King? Based on natural religion, deism is the discovery of religious truths through reasoning rather than through scripture or via the prophets. That’s the simple answer for it. When asked if he was, what did King have to say?

Wikipedia is a good source of information that is run by volunteers who are passionate about getting the facts straight. However, anyone can edit a page. That doesn’t mean those edits will stay long when someone who is monitoring that page comes along and notices an error. This leaves plenty of room for pranks and misinformation.

In other words, don’t simply believe what’s on the internet; information is easy to get twisted.

It could have been a typo. That happens all the time, and he’s already a King. Could the source have meant deity?

It doesn’t do any good to deny it.

Someone’s been obsessively paying attention to every interview dating back to 1967.

Finally, someone catches on to the humor.

Responding with God in his answer, that’s just too good. Whether he believes or he just said it in gest, it doesn’t matter as long as he keeps writing great stories, and Hollywood keeps making movies out of them.
