‘Wednesday’ star gives Jennifer Lopez the coldest response when asked about working with her

They have a past and apparently, it is still fresh.

Luis Guzman shocked his Wednesday co-stars during a recent appearance on Hot Ones when he gave a surprisingly cold response about working with Jennifer Lopez. The 68-year-old actor, who plays Gomez Addams on the hit Netflix series, was asked to describe several of his past co-stars with just one word during a game segment with his castmates.

The game started off warmly enough. When photos of his frequent collaborator Adam Sandler appeared, Guzman called him “amazing.” For Catherine Zeta-Jones, who plays his wife Morticia on Wednesday, he chose the Spanish word “bellisima,” meaning beautiful. But when Emma Myers showed him a photo of Jennifer Lopez, his response was notably different.

According to TMZ, when Myers brought up Lopez, 56, Guzmán replied with an unenthusiastic shrug that she was “OK.” His Wednesday costars were shocked by his unfiltered opinion, gasping and laughing afterward. The lukewarm assessment created an awkward moment at the table, with Jenna Ortega and Joy Sunday visibly surprised by his blunt response.

Working relationship dates back to 1998 crime comedy

Guzman and Lopez worked together in Steven Soderbergh’s 1998 crime comedy Out of Sight, where they appeared alongside George Clooney. Guzmán and Lopez starred together in the 1998 crime comedy film Out of Sight, portraying escaped prisoner Jose “Chino” Chirino and U.S. Marshal Karen Sisco, respectively. The film, based on an Elmore Leonard novel, also featured Ving Rhames, Don Cheadle, Steve Zahn, and Viola Davis in supporting roles.

The contrast in Guzman’s responses was particularly striking given his obvious affection for other colleagues. When Myers asked about Jenna Ortega, he called her “a prodigy,” which clearly moved the young actress. She responded warmly, telling him “Aww, I love you,” to which he mouthed the same words back.

Lopez has had a turbulent year in Hollywood, dealing with personal challenges and mixed reception to some of her recent projects. The lukewarm response from Guzman adds to ongoing discussions about her reputation in the industry, particularly around her relationships with co-stars and collaborators over the years.

The Hot Ones appearance was part of promoting Wednesday season 2, which continues to be one of Netflix’s most successful series. Guzman’s candid moment has sparked conversations online about celebrity relationships and the dynamics between actors who worked together decades ago.
