Whitney Purvis heartbreak compounded: ’16 & Pregnant’ star denied entry to son’s funeral

Purvis and her ex offer conflicting explanations.

Whitney Purvis, best known to fans of MTV’s 16 & Pregnant for her raw and real journey as a teenage mom, has endured unimaginable tragedy.

Purvis’ 16‑year‑old son, Weston Gosa Jr., passed away suddenly on June 2, 2025, in Gordon County, Georgia. But the heartbreak didn’t end there: Purvis was denied entry to his funeral, and the fallout has ignited a firestorm of shocking accusations.

What happened at Purvis’ son’s funeral?

According to Purvis, she was told her son’s funeral would begin at 4 p.m. on June 17. According to reports, when Purvis arrived, the doors were closed. She claims her name wasn’t even on the guest list was refused entry.

But her ex, Weston Gosa Sr., painted a different picture. He alleged he’d informed Purvis that the viewing ran from 2–4 p.m., with the funeral starting exactly at 4. He also said he called Purvis a week ahead to explain the strict guest‑list policy.

Weston Sr. claims Whitney showed up “around 4:15 p.m.” after the doors were already locked and many guests arrived earlier and still got in. He also contends that her mom, aunt, and uncle attended.

The fallout: blame, betrayal & bitter text messages

Once turned away, Purvis reportedly erupted into angry text messages, accusing Weston of purposely keeping her out. He fired back with a photo of the guest list, including Whitney’s name. Whitney reportedly branded him “evil” for denying her access to their son’s final farewell.

The funeral, described as a private, tightly monitored service, closed its doors early for “sensitive circumstances.”

A gesture of closure

In what some see as a peace offering, Weston Sr. and his current wife, Amy, later provided Whitney a separate urn with some of Weston Jr.’s ashes. While intended as a conciliatory gesture, it only deepened the pain—Whitney ended up mourning alone, tormented by what might have been said at the service she was barred from seeing.

Who is Whitney Purvis?

Whitney shot to fame back in 2009 as a vulnerable and inspiring teen on MTV’s groundbreaking first season of 16 & Pregnant. Viewers watched as she navigated young motherhood with baby Weston by her side. Though the couple later welcomed a second son, River, in 2014, thawed tensions led to a split and, eventually, Whitney lost custody of both children, herself embroiled in legal trouble over unpaid child support in 2024.
