Rihanna and A$AP Rocky’s Los Angeles home was allegedly opened fire on by Ivanna Ortiz, 35, while it was occupied by both stars, their three children, and three household staff members. Ortiz is now facing attempted murder charges for the incident.
Celebrity fans, stans, and foes are a class of society that has long puzzled even the most efficient psychiatrists. It’s hard to know why they do what they do, and it’s even more complicated to get them to stop such outbursts. As such, the Los Angeles Police Department still doesn’t have a motive. But authorities have tacked on 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm.
Reportedly, Ortiz arrived at the driveway of Rihanna’s property with an AR-15-style rifle and shot at the home. Law enforcement has accounted for each of the eight people who were on Rihanna’s property during the shooting, plus two other neighbors who were in the general direction of Ortiz’s gunfire. Gun violence remains a plague in America, but it really doesn’t help when it’s mixed with parasocial relationships.
According to NBC, Ortiz’s bail has been set at $1.875 million, and should she be convicted, she’s facing life behind bars. The Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office has taken up the responsibility of assigning Ortiz a defense lawyer. The office said, “As in every case, we will work to ensure that our client receives the full protections guaranteed under the Constitution.” The office refused to give more information about how it may approach the case or any preliminary findings that might work in Ortiz’s favor.
Rihanna and her partner A$AP Rocky have had a turbulent few years together. After turning their long-time friendship into a romance, you’d think it would be happily ever after for the two lovebirds. But life is always a little more complicated. They have been blessed with two sons and one daughter, yet A$AP Rocky has also been entangled in his own court case that could have resulted in him spending a very long time behind bars. Still, the two have managed to weather their toughest moments together. In this case, at least, there is some relief: despite the shooting, not a single person was harmed by Ortiz’s gunfire.
Nathan Hochman made it very clear that the public should expect consequences for Ortiz’s actions. Hochman said, “When an individual comes into our community and decides to shoot it up, that individual will be arrested and held fully accountable for her actions.”
Neighbors in the Beverly Crest community of Los Angeles reported seeing a woman wearing a wig driving through their neighborhood in a Tesla on Sunday. Some eyewitnesses saw the car drive up to Rihanna’s residence specifically, and then loud gunshots were heard. That’s when people in the area called the police, and Ortiz was arrested. That’s the only information the police have released on the situation so far. As the case goes on, there will be more revelations — in particular, the why.
Neither A$AP Rocky nor Rihanna has released a public statement about the shooting.
